A Trip to Great Eastern Cutlery: In Praise of Worthy Men (and Women, of course)

Very cool experience - thanks for sharing with us!

Lemmon, thanks for sharing your trip with us. The pics and commentary were great.

Sounds like a great time Lemmy! I can't wait for the Rendezvous. To see that front porch with a bunch of people sittin around, swappin tales, showin knives, swappin knives! The Tours comin and goin. In the afternoon, when the Factory is closing up, we put the Beer Scouts to their intended use, have a couple Hot Dogs. And talk about knives some more.

Sounds great Bob! I'm glad I got the chance to visit because I doubt I'll have the chance to make it up for the Rendezvous myself.

Lemmy, I can't thank you enough for taking us along! What a marvelous tour and experience.

Looks like a great trip. Thanks for the pics. Nice to hear the folks were so friendly. Added to my east coast wish list, the kentucky bourbon trail's ahead of it, though.

Fantastic write-up and photos, Lemmy!:thumbup: I could tell from the "tone" of your writing that you really were excited about and enjoyed your visit ("kid in a candy store" comes to mind :D). Very cool; thanks for sharing your experiences.

You really should especially if you happen to be driving out that way. Titusville is a really interesting town too. Plus Queen and Case aren't too far from there. Also there's some really nice camping spots in Oil Creek State park ( a couple miles from GEC) and the Alleghany State Park just east of there.
...

Has anyone ever tried visiting GEC, Queen, Case, and the baseball Hall of Fame all on the same trip? Is that feasible? Are there other "attractions" in the general area I should try to fit in if planning such a trip? Anything in western PA/NY that would appeal to a quilter/knitter/embroiderer that I could use to appeal to my wife when trying to entice her into such a trip some summer?

Thanks GT - kid in a candy store is pretty accurate. Sadly I wasn't able to make it to Queen's factory store. They said they're not doing tours right now at least. We had to beat in down the road. I did stop in Bradford at the Zippo Case museum and store. Some excellent displays which I'll share in another thread sometime, but again not so open and inviting as GEC's factory. I'm sure there is some sort of quilty stuff to do in those parts, certainly a lot of estate sales and resale shops which my partner appreciated.

Thank You so very much for the great pics and tour Lemme! We have very similar taste in knives I see, if I had to pick one new GEC to buy, the 73 Osage would be #1 with a bullet :D Great choice!
Sounds like you had a wonderful day visiting the Production facility.

Awesome post! Love the pics and commentary. What a great company (I say as I'm fondling my new Gabon Ebony Huckleberry Boys Knife)!

Lemmy, I think you absolutely captured their passion and drive to creat the knives for all of us! While I've never been to the factory, I sense the passion and good ole American can do spirit!
Does one's heart to good to read this.

Thanks for sharing your visit to Great Eastern Cutlery Lemmy. Very interesting and well written, I almost felt like I got to experience the hospitality you were shown from this great group of people. Well done

Great write-up Lemmy, I really enjoyed reading it and looking at the pictures! Seeing all that well-used shop equipment in action puts a charge into me.

Excellent trip report, Lemmy! Really appreciate you taking the time to post it up! Thanks!

Thanks Lemmy...I don't get out to those parts much. so good to have a mini field trip.

It's great that the back porch exists for its GEC fans. And you were able to find a nice souvenir knife too.
