Thanks GT - kid in a candy store is pretty accurate. Sadly I wasn't able to make it to Queen's factory store. They said they're not doing tours right now at least. We had to beat in down the road. I did stop in Bradford at the Zippo Case museum and store. Some excellent displays which I'll share in another thread sometime, but again not so open and inviting as GEC's factory. I'm sure there is some sort of quilty stuff to do in those parts, certainly a lot of estate sales and resale shops which my partner appreciated.
Fantastic write up!
The care and craftsmanship gec puts into their knives is quite inspiring![]()

Thanks for the response and suggestions, Lemmy. I think I'll fire up Google maps some cold evening next winter and start at least dreaming about a road trip!

Lemma - Thanks for sharing your tour with us, I'm dying to get to the factory.....Some day![]()
I enjoyed the post. They are making me promise to come see them when we get moved. I am making it a priority.
Where to Derrick?
Yes, where to, Derrick?
Lemmy, I have been to GEC several times, and dealt with the whole mob there. Your articulate description of the spirit of the place is spot on!!
Thanks for sharing it with us all!!!
What an excellent write up! The pics are great, and it's nice to sense the enthusiasm from both of you. Those kinds of tours really intrigue me, and I enjoy seeing all the processes and tooling.
Thanks for sharing!
Great post !! And even better toothpick 😎
Hey there's a great tour of the factory on line for those of you who are not likely to make it there themselves. Came across it the other night looking on You-Tube for stuff on vintage stockmen knives. Watched it right through as it tracked a GEC folder through it's various stages of production. Really interesting stuff. They seem like a great team who take a lot of pride in what they're doing. Unfortunately I lack the ability to create a direct link but you'll find it easy enough if you put in the right terms.
I think every employee is a trained by Bill ,integral facet of each knife produced.
Country hospitality and old world cutlery production, quite the combination at GEC.
Thanks Lemmy.
Great Tour Lemmy, I would LOVE to be able to go through there one day!
Thanks for taking the time to share with us - that was cool.
Makes me want to go all the more.
I really enjoyed that. Thank you for the glimpse.
Thanks, reminds me of my first visit, which I hope to take again this August, their open house is coming up very soon! Here's a shot I took as each station was attended so they could show us folks on the tour what goes into building some of the finest traditional production knives being built today;
