A Very Modified Endura 4

Ken, I won't be surprised when you make a blade so thin that you can see through it. :D

I am working on that:D

You know, I am sort of a "polar" type of guy. For slicers, I want crazy thin slicers that perform that single purpose. But that is not to say that I do not get a kick out of stupid-thick sharpened sections of railroad tracks that chop golf balls and could baton through car parts. These knives are VERY different beasts however and I do not want them on the same hip.

Man, wow, just wow, that is probably the best file work i have ever seen, and to have just eyeballed it, i am blown away.

That's to cool for school unit!:thumbup:How did you go about polishing the blade?:)

Thanks guys.

I find that working on knives occupies the time that I would otherwise be using to spend money on knives:)

The polishing was sort of done in 2 phases. The preliminary grinding I did on the blade to thin it down by 0.5 mm was done almost a year ago on DMT plates. I polished it at that time with DMTs also, but the result was not pretty (I was really just going for a thinner blade and then took out the heavy scratches to make it slice better than it would with a rough finish.

More recently I revisited the job and used wet dry sandpaper and thinned the blade a little more, and worked a little harder toward making the blade faces suitable for showing off....and really that is about the only reason anyone would ever want to polish VG-10. It looks swell, but it scratched up the first time I used it. I have no regrets...I knew it would get scratched up before I started polishing.

ZDP-189 on the other hand (and for how I use the knife) holds the polish much better (You have probably seen that Stretch I have flogged all over the forums). None of my knives are show pieces (all users) but I like them to look nice. ZDP seems to do both well. VG-10 still remains my favorite all around EDC steel though.

Very nice work!
I have a fully serrated first gen frn Endura here that i haven't used in ages, i'm not big on serrations anymore.
Perhaps i should do a similar mod (at least the grind part)!
:)
