A Vic Farmer to the rescue!

I use my Farmer all the time at work. A few weeks ago I used it to cut a 3" PVC vent to remove a blockage and some 2x4's for nailers. I was too lazy to run down and back up 4 floors to get my reciprocating saw. :D

The saw on the Farmer is pretty amazing!

Awesome! Let us know when it arrives :)

It arrived...

I like it! At first it felt really cold, just in from the outdoor mailbox. The Alox scales felt foreign because I'm used to plastic and wooden handles. This felt more like a multi-tool than a knife. Is this the gateway drug to Leathermans?

Then I pulled out my trusty Mini Peasant and slipped in the Farmer. Funny, the Farmer weighs twice as much as the Mini Peasant, but it doesn't feel that way. I went out to dinner (walking), and it feels good in my pocket. It's still there, except when I take it out to admire the quality Swiss manufacturing and craftsmanship. It is a solid tool, one that could easily be the only folder one carried.

I've come full circle. An SAK was my first knife before I got interested in knives. I've been into carbon steel and high value traditional knives, like Svords and Bucks. Now, I'm back to an SAK, a nicer one than I started with. I wonder if this will kick the Mini Peasant out of my pocket. I think it may for a while, until I assess whether or not I like having all these tools, if I prefer the simplicity of a singled carbon steel blade and its comfortable handle.

I'm interested to hear you are a Friction Folder guy .
I love my Alox SAK's and will always have one on me or nearby , but I have recently got the Friction Folder bug and will be interested to see how they compliment each other .
The Farmer is good , I didnt believe the hype initially but now own 2 :)

The tipping point for acquiring the Farmer was when I realized the pins were on the outside of the scales, and I could tighten easily if I wanted to. Can't do that with a Cellidor model.

No matter what other knives I carry, my Farmer is always with me. One of the best tools ever!

dogstar,

Glad to hear you're happy with the Farmer. It's truly a near-perfect "one knife" option for EDC. I still always have a traditional slip-joint on me though - usually a Stockman or 2-blade jackknife like my Eureka Jack.

Same here, the Farmer is just part of my pants basically. So unless I'm going someplace without my pants (don't panic I'm not! lol) then the Farmer is in it's sheath on my belt. In my RFP is usually a Stockman and the lil Peanut in my watch pocket for those tiny tasks or in public where it's "friendly" appearance raises no eyebrows.

All ya need!!!!! :D

Yes, for those "if you could only keep one knife" scenarios, the Farmer would be hard to beat.

Hmmm, talking about keeping or owning just one knife on a knife forum is dangerously subversive. It may even be SAKrilegious!!

But if, and that's a really huge "IF", I were to have to go into some sort of exile, and could take only one single pocket knife with me…

No, I just can't deal with it!

:D

OK, so I'm sold on the Farmer: I absolutely love the saw on my Vic Camper, my alox Electrician hasn't left my pocket since gregc gifted it to me last October (except when TSA forced me to leave it home), last month I bought a beautiful black Pioneer that I can't stop looking at, and you guys are piling up the testimonials about the Farmer's day-to-day utility. Put those all together, and obviously I NEED a Farmer! :p

But here's my dilemma. I can get good deals on silver Farmers almost every day, but I'd REALLY like to get a Farmer of a different color someday. How tough is it to find a reasonable price on a colored Farmer? Or how long am I likely to be looking? Should I be patient and remain Farmerless until I can find a colored one? Or should I just get a "normal" Farmer and start using it ASAP, and basically give up on the colorized dream? Don't EVEN give me the usual BF advice about doing both!:mad::rolleyes: That's not going to fit my "low-rent" budget.

Thanks for your opinions and data. I'd really like to join the Farmer Fanboy Club, especially if SAK Guy is the grand poobah.:D

I own both a coloured Farmer and a Silver one .
I got the coloured one first and was so taken by its good looks I was scared to scratch it .
I found a Silver farmer on a auction site at a super cheap price because someone had engraved their initials on it , no one wanted a knife with someone else's name on it .
I didn't care because it was going to be my user and it would get a hard life .
But and its a big BUT I have started carrying the coloured one because it was just to nice to leave at home , and the Silver one only goes out occasionally now .
Pay the money , get what you will treasure and enjoy , get the colour you want , buy right and only buy once .

The same company that did the 2 runs of the orange Farmer is promising more colors in the future. Those will be very affordable and.......

Swiss Bianco does colors once a year or so so if you start putting funds back now, SB's will still be cheaper than most vintage Red Farmers.
