Photos A Walk in Nature

I chimed in to say that I appreciate your comments.
Means a lot to me.
I should have said, " sometimes, I don't know why I do this."
But after seeing the replies and comment. I know why I do this. Your comments inspire me. And they humble me.

Thank you to the bladeforums community. Hope is a good thing. I hope for many things. But mostly right now, I hope you all have a great Holiday. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Arthur Smith

All done pretty much except the painting and a few minor details, which will have to wait for spring:

I tested my transport method, and it works just fine:

The crossbar on the trunk does not support the boat while driving, it just allows me to push it up onto the roof from behind the car. I was planning on removing it while driving, but it doesn’t get in the way of anything or block my view, so I will probably just leave it mounted while transporting the boat.

I’m contemplating some shade of blue for the paint:

Most EXCELLENT Tom. I like your boat boost on the trunk. My first thought was to leave it as extra support. Doesn't give you access to the trunk while carrying but it does mean that you will have assist for the lift at the other end too. Does that piece for in the trunk (if you remove the cross bar)? Would be good to keep that safe when you are at a ramp sight. How will this craft be powered?

I have not tried putting it in the trunk - I think it would fit, if I didn’t have all that other junk in there… 🤣 The cross-bar is indeed removable. I was going to put it in the back seat, along with the removable seat you see between the midpoint and the stern in my picture.

Paddle and pole.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is the wheel for? 🤔
The wheel allows me to push the boat around like a wheelbarrow! I saw an aluminum johnboat with a pair of wheels at the stern on top of a minivan earlier this year, and that gave the idea. When I saw the huge caster wheel at the hardware store, I thought that would be even better. It works really well, surprisingly.

Nobody is going to be helping me load and unload this thing, so I put a lot of thought into how to do it by myself.

That's pretty smart 🎓🧐👍

And painfully obvious now that you've explained it 🥴:D

Looking great Tom, I can not wait to see it in action in the spring

Spring of 2007
We could not wait until we got a tiny utility trailer and put in on top of Dad's Toyota Echo to go launch it for the first time

My parents had a crazy adventure on the Rideau Canal rowing from Ottawa to Smith Falls that summer ( about 100 km )
Lots and lots of stories however they shall be kept confidential in the family ☺️

Beautiful work, Dan, and what an amazing gift for your parents! It sounds like they had some real adventures in it :D

I will be sure to update you as soon as I get mine afloat in the spring - in the meantime I may recon some likely launching spots. My hope is to get at least one overnight trip in next year, in addition to more regular day-trips and fishing.

It really made my morning to see you pop up here in this thread again - I hope everything is well with you and your family.

Thank you so much for this report
Gracias amigo, talk of small boats 🚣‍♀️ and water always gets me excited very fast lol
Dan's wearing the mask or showing only the top of his head in this series. I won't add any commentary. ;)
LOL :D, no comments PLEASE 😅

Thank you Tom :) I apreciate your kind words
Things are going well  . Diana has finished the hardest portion of her treatment ( chemo, surgery and radiation) and is getting stronger by the day . She is tolerating the infusions she still gets every 3 weeks until May quite well. She is looking forward to going back to work on modified duties three days a week in early January.
I have been trying to catch up with many things I had pending in my to do list :)

Today I went xc skiing with my oldest daughter who is home for the holidays from university in Alberta. We had not seen her in 4 months.

I caught a bunny in the canadian wilderness 🐇

Dan, thanks for those good news.
Great to see you on the skis but don't forget, no ice skating anymore!

Dan.

I just wanted to thank you guys. I don't mean to hijack the thread with the things that I see.
It's the only thing I'm good at. It took a lot of practice and many years. I don't make a penny from it.
I don't know why I do it. I figure one of these days, someone will discover me. That's how I have to look at it.
If not, it's all for nothing. From this day to me last days.

Hi Arthur, I love your photography!
Do you have an Instagram?

Glad Diana is through the hardest part and thankful her strength is returning.
Looks like you and your daughter had a great outing
