Love your shadow shot Tom!
Thanks!

I put in the river at Noland’s Ferry and went downstream to the mouth of the Monocacy River, about 2.5 miles, then left my boat there and walked along the canal towpath back to my car. The river there is clean and beautiful, with a gravel bottom, freshwater mussels and snails, and all kinds of birds. I saw a bald eagle, but didn’t get a good picture of it. Bald eagles were unheard of in this area when I was a kid, but conservation measures have brought them back.

The C&O canal park is managed by the National Park Service. When driving back to pick up the boat I crossed paths with a park ranger’s pickup truck leaving the boat ramp area. He must have guessed my car and the boat belonged to the same person (probably judging by the homemade wooden roof racks 🤣) - anyway he turned around and followed me to my boat.

He approached me as I got out to load my boat on the car, and said “I just had to see this rig!“ or words to that effect. I showed him the boat, and the system I devised to load it on my on my car by myself. He asked me a couple of questions - if the boat was stable, if the pole was for propulsion, did I catch any fish, stuff like that.

At first I was afraid he was going to ticket me for an unsafe load or something…

Great shadow shot Tom 👍😊
And your shadow even managed not to show itself holding the phone for the pic 😎

Beautiful scenery!
Looks like the best time of the year for hiking.
Your knife choice matches its surrounding colours nicely 😎
Nice shot!

Crazy how time flies !
It was a year ago that two Porch adventurers embarked on a fearless exploration of the Rideau waterway 😎

Then and now … at the Poonamalie Lock

I love the cadet. I have carried one for the past decade and don't think I'll ever stop.
It's nice because no matter what you have a capable blade on you, even if you leave your dedicated knife behind at home for whatever reason. Like vacation ect.
It's small and doesn't intimidate any sheep that may be around!
