Thank you Frank, we had a good day overall around here, just trying to adjust to the time change and the sun setting way too early.Have a grand day everyone. Keep your eyes open, your knife sharp, your stick sturdy, and your feet well planted.
Great patina on your BF knife Tim
Thanks for sharing about your new favorite place brother !We went to a new spot - for us
The first one on the left looks great Tom. It has that nice curve at the top and looks sturdy. Some day maybe I’ll get around to finishing these…
How I wish it was normal everywhere !!!CelloDan - my goodness, is this normal..!?
Wow Jeff, your are blessed to live close to such a breathtaking place ! So beautiful !There's snow on the mountains here in Alberta. It was a windy day, on calm days you can see the mountains reflecting off the water. Also went fishing but didn't get any bites.
Nice , I suspect , start on that one on the right . There is just no end to what can be done to a Walking Stick .Some day maybe I’ll get around to finishing these…

Glad you went to Fort Fredrick. Been there a couple times. Sure is a cool place.I was originally planning on leaving today and camping 2 nights, but predicted high winds caused me to change my plans. Just a single night trip, then, but it’s better than nothing. I plan to visit Fort Frederick along the way, which dates originally from the French and Indian war, so I’m thinking a period-appropriate carry will be the way to go:

That's some kinda handiwork on those sticks Dan. I don't have the patience to work up handles like those, but I really like what you did. Nice tips too.Thank you Frank, we had a good day overall around here, just trying to adjust to the time change and the sun setting way too early.
Great advise too![]()
For my sticks I fitted a piece of pipe on theirs ends and capped them with a rubber leg tip for chairs . In theory it would make it grippier however I have not used them that much in order to draw a valid conclusion.
One of the reason I made the sticks was that at the park where we used to take our little puppy for walks some big dogs were getting out of hand playing too rough so I needed a way to keep them at bay if need came.
On the handle part I put a piece of double sided carpet installation tape and covered with leather and stitched it up.

Keep up posted on the "chaga saga"

You can do this bro
How I wish it was normal everywhere !!!
It is "normal" only in a lake situated on a nature park in Quebec. Visitors can purchase food and feed the trout. They have grown to gigantic sizes !
I had visions and dreams of catching a few and cooking up a meal like no other by the shore lol
Wow Jeff, your are blessed to live close to such a breathtaking place ! So beautiful !
I have the same medium Case stockman with the square ends and pen blade instead of the spey. I really like it
Some more pics from our trip to Omega Park
"Hey, what's up bro" "You mind I take some pics for the Porch ?"

.........it reminded me of how Koi Carp can behave, but have never seen that behaviour in the wild. The trout I go after here in UK always look the other way, reminds me of my teens 'chasing young women' - it didn't matter how you walked, stalked or tried - they never came to you.!How I wish it was normal everywhere !!!

That one is from Black Locust. Very hard but a little splintery, making details difficult to carve. I may finish the spiral part and call it good…Nice , I suspect , start on that one on the right . There is just no end to what can be done to a Walking Stick .

Thanks. I sliced a lemon, but didn't clean it right away. I like result, though, and how it changes color a bit in the sun.Great patina on your BF knife Tim.
If that is an oak leaf I see on the deck it would mean that there is an oak tree nearbySome day maybe I’ll get around to finishing these…
Thank you Paul ! .... and thanks for the chuckle mi amigo.........it reminded me of how Koi Carp can behave, but have never seen that behaviour in the wild. Wow, thanks for the glimpses into your man cave Frank and sharing some of your projects !My indoor nature project of late...
Great stuff. Frankly, I'd like to see all golf courses re-wildedNo big adventures today, just a couple hours walking through local parkland, and through a former municipal golf course they left go to seed:

I used the Fieldmaster to saw off another piece of that fallen beech I found a couple of weeks ago, long enough to make a walking stick out of this time. I already have 2 suitable sticks though, and I don’t even use a walking stick/hiking pole or whatever. I guess the little boy in me just can’t get enough cool sticks to play with…

But it's a beautiful game, Will!Great stuff. Frankly, I'd like to see all golf courses re-wildedcouldn't care less if I 'offend' golfers it's a pathetic game. As George Orwell said, it takes up huge tracts of beautiful countryside turning it into some suburban, manicured tundra using thousands of gallons of water, destroying wildlife just so the middle-aged/elderly and largely overweight can chase some little ball around a lawn

I am with Robin on this one, I blame the Scotschase some little ball around a lawn
What do you think of curling?
If that is an oak leaf I see on the deck it would mean that there is an oak tree nearby
I read that oak makes for good sticks although it may be a bit hard to work with.
Some day maybe I’ll get around to finishing these…

I don't want to contradict a man with taste- who knows a Dry Martini and a fine Bourbon- and who has fine taste in knives and who I respect, but we all have interesting flawsBut it's a beautiful game, Will!
