Knife along the shore today. That's all I've got![]()
An impressive use of Antler in a very effective natural way
That's a beauty of a stick you rescued Tom. I recently began working up my Sycamore stick. I call it Patch, for obvious reasons, and it is some kinda hard wood - whew! Yours looks to be right about the same length as mine.![]()

Just about 11 miles along the canal today, carrying my usual Okapi in my pocket, and the Fieldmaster in a sheath on my belt. I ventured inside the beltway this time, where politicians and other such riffraff can be found, but turned around about 2 miles before actually entering the District.

I actually found a nice sycamore stick, in an area where it looked like the park service had been clearing out some dead trees. Here it is back at home:

I also saw a Belted Kingfisher, but couldn’t get a decent picture.

Such beautiful scenery. And fishing an open-bladed knife out of a snowbank has to be interesting, to say the least.Snowy Road by Jeff, on Flickr

Gotten a lot colder and snowier here in Alberta. Still warmer than I'd expect for December, but it was a windy day. The knife fell into a snow bank a second after I took that picture, really got buried in the snow. Took me a few minutes to find it![]()
Luckily it snapped shut when it fell.Such beautiful scenery. And fishing an open-bladed knife out of a snowbank has to be interesting, to say the least.
Love it Vince !!!That's why I like living on the Texas coast.
Great company Ray, that Puukko looks amazing.I wasn't the only one walking in the snow. Here with myBogdanS FIREBUG PUUKKO ~
Awesome RayLater as I continued on home, I found this new little stash.
Hey Tom, why did they mark the trail with stones like that ?but turned around about 2 miles before actually entering the District.
I wondered if it's a similar species of tree as the one in the bible that Zacchaeus climbedI actually found a nice sycamore stick
Awesome vistas mi amigo !Gotten a lot colder and snowier here in Alberta. Still warmer than I'd expect for December, but it was a windy day.
More beautiful vistas !!!Today was too nice a day to waste anywhere but up in the mountains.
The trail is actually what once served as the towpath for the C&O canal. I assume they were useful reference markers for folks who worked and transported goods along it. Most of the old ones are gone, but there are newer concrete ones every mile still, and they make great reference points for recreational use:Hey Tom, why did they mark the trail with stones like that ?
I wondered the same thing when I scored my first Sycamore stick Dan. Nope. That was a Ficus sycomorus, as opposed to the Platanus, that is known as a Sycamore in North America, according to the New World Encyclopedia on line.I wondered if it's a similar species of tree as the one in the bible that Zacchaeus climbed
Beautifully photographed Dan.Good morning folks !
I forgot to share this photo yesterday of our chickadee friend
