I haven’t been on much lately. Family came in for youngest daughter’s graduation party. Been busy with that. While my mom and nephew was here we did get to spend some time outdoors.

A few weeks ago we were blessed to be able to travel to Western Canada.
It was a beautiful, exciting and truly unforgettable trip for us.

We met our daughters there who had just finished their academic year at university as well as my sister, brother in law and their kids who came from the Orcas Island where they live.

Along for the ride came my trusty Grohmann Slimline folder
I got this knife in person at the Grohamnn factory in Nova Scotia some years ago and took it all over Prince Edward Island on the East Coast.

I figured it would be cool to show it the west coast of Canada as well.

The fit and finish is very good
Mine was a "second" at 50 % off and I could not find a fault with it.
This is similar to what most folks often comment online when buying seconds from Grohman.
You can buy seconds by calling them or from their website.

The F&F is not that perfectly "flushed everywhere" we often see on GEC 's, I'd say is very similar to my Case knives overall.

The steel for their folding knives, as per their website "Other european steels somewhat comparable to AUS6 are used in the pocket and lock knives. Rockwell hardness 56-58 degrees is maintained throughout all of the Outdoor knives"
I can't detect a difference when sharpening it vs my other traditional folders in stainless. Aus6 is a budget steel from what I understand. Spyderco has used it in the past on some models like the delica.

While walking on the grounds of the British Columbia Parliament Building in Victoria BC we were quite surprised to find three deer busy stealing and munching on the shrubs and newly planted flowers that the gardener not far away was busy tending to.

Unveiled in 1925 it commemorates the Canadians who lost their lives in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Afghanistan Mission.

I then walked back to my car to leave my Grohmann there so we could go through security to visit inside the Parliament Building.

And then for a nice walk along the beach and to a park close to it

I wanted my Grohmann to dip a toe in the Pacific and have a taste of it

THen a "rogue" wave LOL soaked it in SALT WATER

I gave the Green Heron a fresh coat of paint a couple of weeks ago, but high river levels have prevented me from actually getting it in the water. With heavy rains yesterday (and forecast again for tomorrow), this weekend looks like a no-go as well.

I tried fishing a little last weekend, but the river was still a bit high and fast, and all the approaches to the banks were covered in deep mud from the recent flood.

My spring vacation time this year was spent in my yard, catching up on gardening and light landscaping projects. So I'm a bit late in posting this from one of my early-April walks along the local nature trail. With a Buck 112 on my hip and this Case Redbone 6344CV in my pocket, it was a good day.

My Army 7 makes a good hiking companion. I got out early to beat the heat, and got a wonderful 5 mile hike in. The 5 miles isn't bad, but 1500 vertical ft left my legs tired for the rest of the day.

My wife convinced me to go hiking today and I’m glad she did. The view is of Long Lake, toward Bishop Pass, Sierras CA. Now I’m waiting for the advil to kick in.

I have been working and not so inclined to get out recently. I need to rally myself and find some enjoyment out there again. I did join a good friend for a boat ride out to DAMARISCOVE ISLAND 6 miles offshore from Boothbay Harbor - our starting point. We were heading out to get the caretaker shack somewhat ready in advance of my friend's wife and daughter returning this summer for their 6th season as the summer caretakers and historians. (Check out the link. The island has a long history starting in the 1600s from the beginning of folks coming to these shores.) I'm always up for a boat ride and a bit of helping out. Has been decades since my last visit.

No knives in these photos but we were OUT and WALKING IN NATURE

That “haze” you see in this photo is NOT fog but rather SMOKE from CelloDan 's chimney. Dan you might want to dampen er down a bit. Canadian fires come to Maine.



The CARETAKER's SHACK - doesn't look like much but it works pretty well. ~

A 6 ACRE fresh water pond on the island. A tremendous resource back in the early days. ~



And finally looking to the NORTH end of the island to the protected bird nesting sanctuary. No visitors allowed.
Beyond is NOT Boothbay Harbor but rather the next peninsula up the coast from Boothbay - Bristol/Pemaquid.

I hope Dan can get his fire under control.
