A Warning About Buck Knives

FWIW..........

About six months ago, I bought a new Buck Folding Alpha Hunter. Two or three weeks
later, I called Buck and asked the guy that answered if I could get a handle screw
for it. His response? Something on the order of: If you want the screw, buy the
knife. I couldn't believe what I was hearing......from a major American knife
manufacturer. I called back twice more that week, each time getting the same
unfriendly son of a bitch. I emailed Buck Knives to complain about the treatment I
had received. Todate, I've never heard back from them about the incident.

Fool that I am, I bought a Buck Mini Strider Spear Point from someone in a forum
last week. I love the knife...it's just exactly what I've been looking for! I called
Buck again, about a half hour ago, and asked the woman who answered if I could get
a pocket clip....so I could send it out to be engraved........that's how much I like
this little pocket rocket! I've never had anything engraved in my 60 years.
Her response? She said: "We don't give out knife parts. We've never given out parts
in the twenty five years that I've been here."

I will not buy another Buck knife.............period!

That sure doesn't match up with my experience. I've found Buck to be one of the two or three best companies with regard to customer service. Someone must've been having a bad day. (or two)

My very recent experience with Buck was outstanding!
They turned my 20 year old Buckmaster into a new
knife for $10 in 10 days!

Like not2sharp suggested, drop Joe Houser a line at the Buck Forums...he'll get to the bottom of it, and get it squared away.
Joe's a great guy to deal with.;)

Dann........

Sorry, I wasn't aware of the Buck Forum. I would have posted my gripe there, had I known.

No worries...That's why I'm here...Sort of like a traffic cop.:D.

My experiences with Buck Knives and Joe Houser have all been positive. They're a class act!

I dont know who you talked to..............or if you are giving us the straight facts......but CJ Buck is active on the BUCK FORUM and will make sure your problem is taken care of.

I know for a fact that they have a very good support team.

Perhaps it was your tone????

His tone? Exactly how menacing could you make a request for a pocket clip so you could have it engraved because you like the knife so much? I mumble and growl most of the day at work and most people know to stay far, far, far away from me when I"m in a bad mood, but even I couldn't sound bad enough asking a question like that to be considered hostile.

Sad fact is, many times people answering phones don't know thier ass from a hole in the ground. We have waaaayyyyy too many managers in our company that just don't have a clue on what certain processes are.

Hey Tom..........

You've implied that I wasn't being truthful! Nice guy!

Since I can't post attachments, and YOU'VE got a web site........how 'bout if I email you a photo of the Mini Strider in question and YOU post a link to it....right here. I spent two full days working on that little knife BEFORE I called Buck, and one photo will clear the air. Then you'll know why I asked for a spare clip. In case you can't figure it out....I'm calling your bluff.

I don't see anything that would point to any trolling going on here. Could be wrong, but it looks to me like someone posting about getting poor customer service. The best of companies can suffer this occasionally.

Hopefully you are correct. Maybe Paladin is good guy who was done wrong. A post in the Buck forum may get him the best response.

Some advice.Ask the persons name with whom your speaking with when you are receiving absurd service such as you claim. It is alot easier to track and get to the bottom of such problems if the company knows who gave you this info.It also lends some credability to you reporting this negative interaction with other knifenuts if we have a name other than some crabby bastard told me I can't have any screws,if ya get my drift. As to Tom implying you may not be telling it 100% accurate, well not everyone tells the truth, some tell only there favorable side, others leave out vital information to sway opinion, there are two sides to every story.Considering you are brand new here with less than 20 posts,I'm not suprised some old timers are suspicous of your tale which very well could be totally truthful.

I normally ask a person's name at the very beginning of a conversation, but this time it slipped my mind, and at the end of the conversation I was too disgusted with Buck Knives support to take it any further.....I just slammed the phone down!

I don't lie....about anything....to anyone. My take is that Mayo took the easy way to protect his buddy by implying that I'm a liar. He sounds like a politician! He even questioned my tone? Well, I always threaten someone at a company when I'm looking for something...for nothing. It works quite well!

Lastly, I talked to someone at Buck's broker: US Retail Group...before I called Buck. He was pleasant and told me I'd have to call the company to get small parts, and he gave me their 800 number. If Buck Knives wants to reconcile this, their broker has my name and email address....I'm not hard to get hold of! I'm not going to make any further effort to contact them.

Paladin's a regular on rec.knives. He's no troll.

With all due respects, then what is the point of rasing this issue here? Buck is a good company, and I have had nothing but pleasant experiences with them. When I have an issue I work it with them. I don't just sit on my tail bitching about it and hoping that they call.

If you want it fixed then send an email to Joe, and let us know what you work out. Otherwise, this is a pretty meaningless thread.
