I guess I am just too simple, but "flat & chamfered" seems just fine to me.

Yeah. I love all these creative names, and would love to come up with one that wins, but if you want a name that clearly tells someone what kind of bolsters you're talking about: "flat beveled" seems to fit the bill. Imagine someone who has never seen one hearing that. There's a good chance they would understand.

"Ironing board" comes pretty close to the shape, but I still think flat w/ bevel or flat w/ chamfer are the most descriptive, although only us old trim carpenters probably know what a chamfer is.

"Broken edge" could mean a chamfer (45 degree bevel), or more commonly, a bullnose (rounded).

Please consider my suggestions "not an entry".

Ask me about my upcoming book, "Stupid Carpenter Tricks" or "How To Make Wood Stuff Fit Good".

OK, Thanks for the entries. It is time to close the thread and go to Phase two!!

We have a winner! It was close!
Old & In The Way first mentioned "Flat Top" as a name for the knife style ( even though he denied it:D).
He got 10 votes!
Flathead, Flatstock, and Chamfered got 9 each.
Faceted got 8.
Mesa and Flatiron got 7 each.
Of course the question remains, will the name "stick"??
Will we call that style of knife a "Flat Top"??

Anyway, Old & In The Way, please email me your address!

Stephen!!! Way to go bud!!!

Although the name always reminds me of the old Dick Tracy comic strip. lol Some of you will remember the villan, Flat-top, won't you?

Congrats, Stephen!
Guess I'm the only one who preferred 'Plateau.' :)

Charlie, this was fun! Thanks for the thread.

Congratulations Stephen, enjoy what looks to be the new FlatTop from GEC.

Thanks for the giveaway Charlie.
