Fantastic.

This is going to be a great one

Doug Turnbull restored a 100 year old Fox Shotgun for me that was my grandfathers. He did the original period Fox style case coloring and charcoal blueing. I do not think there is anyone better
Agreed.
A friend of mine is a custom gunmaker and he has had work done by Turnbull.
Turnbull work is second to none.

Ian, I too have watched it many times and it gave me the need to order two similar knives from Bruce. One I already have the other one I will be picking up at the Kansas show in three weeks time.

If you've never seen it, it wouldn't matter if it's fifty years old.;)
One of the best WIP threads I've seen.
Brilliant.

Ian.

Oldie but goodie. But I'm wondering something. Knowing how nice Bruce's file guides are, why does his say "Finnegan" and not "Bump"? :)

WiPs ain't got a shelf life!

I was taking another look through this thread since it was brought back to life and notice I never included Coop's final photos, so here
they are. I'm glad as well to take another looks at the WIP photos.

Thanks for showing that Kevin.
It's a very impressive piece.
I've recently started work on a frame handle bowie* and threads like this are incredibly informative.

Ian.

*Unfortunately, it won't look anything like this one...:o

Anyone can LOOK at a WIP or any other thread for that matter, but to kick it back up to the top without adding any additional content of general value is just stupid, imo.

Thankfully, this one is massively benefiting from your inclusion of Coop photos that were missing from it before, and for that MUCH valued additional content, I thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Flzyflzy who bumped the thread only joined last year and had obviously never seen it before. I'd imagine there are several others who haven't...myself included.
Does this make us stupid?
As a knifemaker myself, threads like this are worth their weight in gold.
Perhaps you're looking at it from a different perspective?

Ian.

Hi Ian,

Am sure that I am looking at it from a different perspective......I check in on BFC daily and have since before I started posting as a regular contributor.

ANYONE who kicks up threads that are older than say 30 days, to my mind has suspicious agendas, up to and including stupidity....but that is neither here nor there.....

If someone kicks up an old ass post going back a year, 5 years, 10 years......and has something of value to add.....you will not see me opining or criticizing.....BUT....if it is some newbie that doesn't pay attention to a date stamp....yup, I'll unapologetically land like a ton of bricks.....bring something of value or STFU....it's pretty simple, right?

Take care, and Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Perhaps you are overly suspicious? Or disdainful? Or both?

If someone kicks up an old ass post going back a year, 5 years, 10 years......and has something of value to add.....you will not see me opining or criticizing.....

Do you see yourself as the arbiter of what is and what isn't of value? The thread itself is of great value, and those newbs that bother you so much might not have the chops to find threads like this otherwise. Others simply might not have the time to spend on the computer looking for stuff they don't know exists.

BUT....if it is some newbie that doesn't pay attention to a date stamp....

That doesn't seem to have much to do with stupidity or suspicious agendas. Perhaps 'untamed' enthusiasm, which I don't think warrants your antipathy, but if that's how you roll, that's how you roll.

yup, I'll unapologetically land like a ton of bricks....

As for apologies, no one expects those from you. Landing like a ton of bricks...that, almost everyone expects. Except those 'newbs', who might take your brick landing as indicative of how they should expect to be treated in this forum. Which is too bad.

bring something of value or STFU....it's pretty simple, right?

Again- you see yourself as the arbiter of what and what isn't of value? That's rich. I've seen plenty of valueless posts coming from you. This one's a good example.

Wow.

Lets just make this a sticky? Make everything Mr. Bruce Bump lays his golden hands upon a sticky?

There we go.

Boys, calm down now, before someone gets the idea that you two are at odds over this. We all know you are both lovable and mild mannered, so just knock it off and play nice!………….and yes! I'm old enough and experienced enough to talk to both of you that way.

Love and kisses,

Paul

Let me shed some light as to the circumstances surrounding this thread being resurrected as posts seem to be getting a bit heated.

An agent for Flzyflzy contacted me a few weeks ago inquiring as to if I would be interested in selling this beautiful piece and another knife in my collection.
Neither were for sale or had I ever had any intention of selling them, however we finally came to terms on the Bump piece.
I shipped the Pinkerton Bowie and the new owner was obviously very enthusiastic, found and read over this thread and responded to it in excitement. Obviously quite a few here (including myself) are glad he did.

I'm glad I got to have met Flzyflzy and be a part of him experiencing the same joy and excitement that I experienced when I received this exceptional knife/sheath 5 years ago.
