I am hoping I can persuade Wright's to do a stamped bolster, they have a nice stamp they use on the tangs of their fixed-blades![]()
That would be sweet.
Hadn't previously heard of a UK Hank/Pouch. Got me thinking that a knife slip made with Harris tweed and a AW barlow with that bolster stamp would be an awesome forum knife set.
It certainly looks like it was worth the search! A nice one!I had a hard time finding that one .
Now, that is a proper knife! One wonders when one encounters such a one if Earl is a name or a title....
Outstanding examples! Thanks Harry! Since starting the thread, I am thinking I will also indeed be looking into a TEW as well, but perhaps a bit plainer version than the excellent examples you share with us.I think if you want a Sheffield Barlow , then you need to make sure that it is a Barlow and it HAS to have a proper length bolster . I can also agree withbonzodog and suggest to you the Taylors Eye Witness Barlows .

It is perhaps best to get a vintage TEW. Another reason that I am leaning toward the knives made by Wrights (or Oakedge if I can find a bit more info about them) is that they are currently in production in Sheffield. Is Taylor's still producing?I think that it's worth mentioning that TEW now only use stainless.

Thanks Jack! It would be interesting to get input about Harry's experience with his Oakedge Barlow. They seem to be nicely done, and would make a great "Sunday go to meeting" version of the standard A Wright knife.I think Oakedge just get knives made for them by Wright'sHarry got one of their fancy Barlows not that long ago (about a year ago wasn't it Harry?)
