A Wright Barlows--Flat sides vs rounded?

That would be sweet.

It might take a while :D

Hadn't previously heard of a UK Hank/Pouch. Got me thinking that a knife slip made with Harris tweed and a AW barlow with that bolster stamp would be an awesome forum knife set.

+1 (on the Harris Tweed slip at least! ;) )

Edit - I also have some vintage Yorkshire-spun woollen cloth!

I have sent off for
I think if you want a Sheffield Barlow , then you need to make sure that it is a Barlow and it HAS to have a proper length bolster . I can also agree with bonzodog bonzodog and suggest to you the Taylors Eye Witness Barlows .
Outstanding examples! Thanks Harry! Since starting the thread, I am thinking I will also indeed be looking into a TEW as well, but perhaps a bit plainer version than the excellent examples you share with us.

I am leaning toward getting one of the Wrights versions mostly as a plain Jane dead simple working example of the knife to be used often, but carried in slacks (so the mid sized bolsters are a bit of a plus).

In seeing the responses so far, I also recognize that it is quite likely that I will get a second example, mostly for the sake of having an example of traditional Sheffield, such as a plain TEW (you gotta like the half and half bolster!). I have also already taken the precaution of getting my wife thoughtful Valentine's gifts, by way of preparation....

I think that it's worth mentioning that TEW now only use stainless.
It is perhaps best to get a vintage TEW. Another reason that I am leaning toward the knives made by Wrights (or Oakedge if I can find a bit more info about them) is that they are currently in production in Sheffield. Is Taylor's still producing?

I think Oakedge just get knives made for them by Wright's  Harry got one of their fancy Barlows not that long ago (about a year ago wasn't it Harry?), but that was made for TEW by one of their former cutlers I think. They moved out of their old 'factory' sometime ago now, and the last I heard, they were waiting to move into new, and much smaller, modern premises. I think that is more of a warehouse than a factory though. I really am not sure about TEW, certainly they import some of their knives. If you can find a vintage TEW, they are great knives

Edit - Just had a look at the TEW website, and it still gives their address as Milton Works, but they certainly AREN'T there

They announced they'd put the sign up on their new premises nearly a year ago, but I can't find any further progress reports.

Thanks Jack! It would be interesting to get input about Harry's experience with his Oakedge Barlow. They seem to be nicely done, and would make a great "Sunday go to meeting" version of the standard A Wright knife.

Sorry Bart, my post was very confusing! I meant Harry got one of the TEW Barlows about a year ago! Sorry about that. I remember he had some difficulty contacting TEW, but it was all good in the end
