Since Mr Chris Reeve helped develop S30V stainless, does that mean there is no chance of seeing ZDP in a sebei?

Also can I add, When will we see an opening hole option? Hope this is not blasphemous :D

I would think that the chances of getting a Sebenza in ZDP189 would be.... well I think you'd have a better chance winning the lottery.:p
And as for an openning hole, I'd think you'd have a better chance of being declared king of the world. And no it's not blasphemous!;)

I recently had a used sebenza blade without the thumbstud. I wanted to get a spyderhole added. my idea was an add-on piece of metal, with a thumb hole, with "ear flaps" if you will coming down on both sides of the thumb stud hole. A pin of screw would go through the existing thumb stud hole to keep it on.

I contacted a couple of makers/mod people who weren't really interested in the idea. I think it's a neat idea. :p

Maybe I'll ask around some more.

I think pigs would fly first and you know the saying about a snowball...... You get the point. I am personally perfectly content with S30V.

I don't have anything against holes or anything and I appreciate how they facilitate openning the knife but I think it would raise patent issues. The thumbstuds work great for me.

Mr Scott Dog , Thanks for your reply. I this is what I thought. S30V is great steel. I just love ZDP and it would be great for marketing sebenza and for us customers. A ZDP sebenza , what news that would be. Do you think that the opening hole would be an issue even if it was not round.

I don't have a sebenza yet. Its my dream to have a sebenza with wood and ZDP

Thanks for the link Dunc, I live near London. I got a Spyderco as a gift for a safari that I made about a year ago and loved it. This is how I got into knives. I started reading knife forums like this one and the spyderco forum. I read about British Balds in the Spyderco forum but never had the chance to look into it. I will check it out.

Now I am fantasizing about a wood sebenza for trips. The sebnza is a hollow ground but a high one. That's the next best thing after a full flat.

Cheers

It is a cool idea. The stud probably works better with gloves in the cold but the hole is a simpler more natural thing to have on the blade.

Thanks for replying

Welcome to your Sebenza addiction!! A wood inlayd Sebbie, that will be sweet!

Blasphemer!!! By using another steel and using a hole in the blade it would not be a Sebenza. The Sebenza is what it is and it's perfect as is. I think you would be in the minority of those who would like to see one made in a different steel. There are plenty of knives out there that have what you are looking for or that can be custom made for you.

Well, mr Chris Reeve was himself a blasphemer when he made the sebenza. I hope he does not stop.

It probably will never happen. But I'd buy one!!! I've been trying to figure out a way to get a thumb hole on mine too.
DaveH If you have any success in getting yours modified, please post pics and details on the forum!

I got permission from spyderco to try it, but they asked that if I do I don't post pictures. So we'll see. First thing is to find a maker.

I haven't purchased any knives since I recieved my flat grind sebenza over 3 years ago but lately I've been getting the itch... I'm really curious to get my hands on a knife with this new ZDP wondersteel. Personally I've never been too much of a thumbstud fan as sometimes it does catch on things when you are making really deep cuts. Although my sebenza rarely hangs up (might just be used to it by now) I think a thumbhole would be a great idea. My sebenza is BG42 so truthfully I don't even have any experienc with S30V. As I'm sure everyone can agree, mine has never let me down so a "better" steel might really be a moot point...Still... I wonder...
