Hey there, folks!
It's sort of a silly reason to GET a new knife (well, any reason is a good reason to me, but. . . maybe it'll be silly to some), but I've been thinking of trying to start gathering some gear for a little movie/photo project that a friend proposed to me. . . .
Basically, I shoot a decent amount of photos (you can look at some of them here, if you like: www.flickr.com/photos/mpadkins), and while I'm nothing special, I do like to do whatever I can to have believable props in the shots.
I'm looking for a knife, small sword that would have clear utility purposes (and would thus justify the ownership of the item), but that would be an asset to someone that was forced to use it in melee combat against slow, unskilled attackers (yeah. . . I'll just say it. . . it's sort of a joke zombie project).
So far I've came up with Scrapyard knives "The Dogfather" -- I like the looks but wish that maybe the blade topped out somewhere over the 10 inches listed on their site (maybe somewhere between 13 and 20 inches). . . .
Hmmm. . . and the Busse Combat katana (I believe that was what it was called) is pretty cool as well.
I'm sort of a geek about quality and all that, so I'd like to have a reasonably priced item that could actually stand up to some use (for instance, if someone is using it to do some heavy chopping in a scene, I'd like for it to hold up to it).
Any direction you guys would like to send me on this would be fine. . . . I guess the criteria would be:
1.)At least 10 inches and up to maybe 20 -- up to 24 or so at most.
2.)A knife would be preferred, but it could be a shortsword, khukri (sp?) or something similar.
3.)Quality is important, but it doesn't have to be something gorgeous -- just something that someone could conceivably use as a real, reliable tool.
4.)Price not much over about $180. . . .
I've always been more of a Spyderco/folder user and this is an entirely new world of blade usage for me. . . .
Thanks for any help you can offer, and I appreciate any answers you provide (especially considering the type of question I'm asking, haha).
