Abaniko’s by Bram Frank

Yes indeed it would make it less prone to blade slide, but it will also make it wider , making it less concealable, especially IWB carry. I don't think it's a good idea to carry one of these "open", because it would attract unwanted attention. And indeed a round hole would look better, more spydie like ;)

Vince from Omega Tactical here. Thanks BOK for mentioning that it was indeed a requirement from Bram initially.

Bram Frank has been not only a friend but a personal instructor for MANY years and I consider him my family. Since he asked me to place the disclaimer on my web site when I went on my own, I did. It did indeed fall to the wayside later and I did not amend my site to reflect that.

The only reason you cannot get a CRMIPT from Omega Tactical is that Omega Tactical cannot get CRMIPT's! About a year ago Bram called and asked if he could get the ones I had for an "Agency" that can't be named, so off they went. I had always hoped to get more but such has not been the case.

In the future, if ANY one has a problem with me or Omega, I would appreciate them coming to me first.

No problem Vince!

Bit of a plug here for Vince but he is a good guy to deal with so no worries buying from Omegatactical. He sent two Guntings all the way to my cousins in South Africa. Thumbs up.

machida - thanks for the links. Those FB Guntings look really nice. I'll definitely buy at least a couple when they hit the market.

Nice :), thanks for links

Simona: Hello - great pics BTW - you look a little like Kate Beckensdale from the movie Underworld... And that, is a good thing :) ;) !

But seriously, I have a question; in the 3rd photo, it appears that you may have drawn the knife in your left hand from inside your right sleave - is that so or did it just look that way due to the way you are holding the knife?

Take care,

James

If the spine ramp on the Gunting is supposed to be an impact weapon that doubles as a "kinetic opening" device, what the hell is it supposed to be good for on a fixed blade?
Is it an ill-designed thumb ramp with an angle steep enough to seriously maul your thumb if you stab a hard object with it? Or is it a double guard with a more pronounced back than primary guard (for whatever reason)?

I don't get it.

Somehow I think you probably don't want to "get it". The ramp is an integrigal part of the knife's design. I recommend that you pick one up and give it a fair shake. The 7 inch handles better than the 5 inch, IMO.

And it returns from the grave once again with it's dirt encrusted fingernails, foul breath and matted hair...clawing....kicking...groaning it's anger and misery...muttering beneath it's breath "why the hell won't they just let me die??!!":p

Sorry... just wanted to say my piece since I've been galavanting around the desert for so long.

No problems from me, I was jus' joshin' 'round....:D

Incidentally, I do agree...it is one heckuva knife, and one I would consider if I were going into harms way.

Heh....incidentally I got a buddy that just came back from Iraq...from what he described to me, it would be EXTREMELY well suited over there.

It is. I was as far north and as far south as you can get in Iraq, and so deep in "the Ghan" that I could chuck a stone into Pakistan. My Abaniko was my most trusted companion.

A couple of months ago I had the chance to handle one and I still don't know what this ramp is supposed to be good for. Neither does the knife fighting instructor I talked to about it.

You're telling me that I "don't want to get it" - so far, no one has bothered to give me a good reason for it to be there.

It's an "integral" part? What does that mean?
What purpose does it serve?
Is it there because of the "kinetic opening" and "LTL" application as an impact device (never mind the fact that these two options don't make sense in a fixed blade...)?

I'm not saying that the ramp was designed that way for no reason, but unless someone explains it to me, I will continue to wonder about it.

why are there no ltl apps for a fixed blade? The ramp had plenty of uses on the gunting with the blade open.

Those so-called "LTL" apps may exist, although I don't think they're practical. Besides, try to convince a judge that you wanted to use a deployed fixed blade for an "LTL" technique to defend yourself...

Apart from "LTL" stuff, an impact device on a deployed fixed blade?
An back cut would be a much better option if the spine is the part of your knife closest to your opponent IMO.
