About the mail and stolen knives?

I insure (usps) over the cost of the knife. The last few times I shipped with insurance at $500 even though the knives were worth a tad less (brand new). That way if it does get swiped they'll be buying me a new knife AND covering shipping on it. In the case of the Sebenzas they'd be buying me some lube or a sheath for my trouble as well.

For the few extra bucks it costs I almost HOPE that they lose it! :p

If it were a rare/one of a kind knife I'd probably ship UPS or FedEx.

I dont think the insurance works that way does it?. I thought they would find the cheapest they could find the Sebenza for and give you that amount back. Maybe I'm wrong

That would get difficult in the case of a UG, since I wouldn't take just any UG in replacement for one of mine.

Is that how it works?! If so then I've been paying a little too much. How do they determine what was in the box? I didn't have to declare it, just the value. So if it got lost what would I say/do? Last time it was a Strider SnG CC, before that an Inlay Sebenza. If I ship my 25 how much should I insure it for? They'd buy a new knife right? If so, the msrp is about as low as they are likely to find on these knives anyway...

Right. What about an irreplaceable item? I figured they'd cut you a check. :(

Boy do I feel stupid.

I had a watch in a hard to find configuration get lost in the mail one time. After a bit of arguing with the post office, I got my check. I told them I wouldn't accept a replacement unless it was identical.

Thanks for that. At least I know that if I ship something special I have a fighting chance.
