Some nice pieces... but i really don't like the "please do not handle". Is it a knife or what? It won't explode if anybody touch it, it won't fall to dust. If the guy do knives to be in locked in a display show, he's not a knife maker anymore, he's an "artist". I don't like this mentality, though the job is fine.

Thanks for the pictures, anyway!

Don had a sign on his knife because the knife was not complete at this point. I'm sure if you asked he would have been very glad to show you this fantastic piece.
Besides....Don IS an "artist":D
Mace

Great hammer-in! I'll post more pics when I get the time.;)

I hope people are taking a whole lot more photos since i wasn't able to be there this weekend. I did however have a good time at the Glasgow lands Scottish festival and even took home a ribbon for my blacksmithing demos and display.

I demand MOAR PICS!

Here is a pic from my cell phone of Christoph's integral knives he forged for his demonstrations. Each knife was forged out of a ball bearing 1.5" in diameter!

I can't believe how much I learned in the three days there. I know how to fix the 'boo-boos' in my current work and how to avoid them in the future. Seeing the big names of the ABS out here willing to help out and share information has given me a better appreciation of what the ABS is about.

Last, but not least; a big ol' round of thanks to Mace for helping me start my chopper!

Christoph is an insane man with a hammer and tongs, someday I'd like to be able to forge like him. I've got a 'rough forged' Christoph Derringer knife that he made at Wulf's hammer in 2 years ago that you could zip an edge on it on your grinder and call it finished.

Here's a photo of Chris forging the integral dagger from a 1" ball of 52100:

Made it back home tonight...What a great weekend!
Got some more pics for you.
First is some of the vendors. Treestump leather was there with some of his great looking sheath work, tandy had a great set up with all kinds of tools and leather, Doug from Bader was there with some great deals and some great grinders!

This fella Kent was there with a GREAT set-up filming and photographing most of the demos!

Christophs forgings and a nice little damascus folder of his...the folder was made from a single billet of damascus split in three, the outsides are the handle slabs and the inside is the blade and spring. In talking with him about it he said he does a lot of his damascus patterns by upseting instead of cutting or grinding.

The spine of Christophs fighter...(This knife is still in the works)

Some more of Christophs work...The top knife has 8 hidden pins in the handle done in such a way the slabs can never pull apart....to the right is some of his "blade stock" All three of these knives are one piece of steel tip to butt!
Christophknives.jpg

I could not stop looking at this knife...Made from a ball bearing...from tip to butt is ONE PIECE!!! This Master really thinks outside the box:thumbup:

Hey Mace , great report and some awsome knives. Hope some more photo's will come in as you can never get enough of a good thing. Thanks for sharing. Paul

Great photos! I think I'll put this hammer-in on my list for next year.

Christoph's work is mindmelting... and he makes the process look so effortless.

Don looks so different without a goatee - almost didn't recognize him. That section of jellyroll damascus is something I'd like to see more of.

The side shot of Dave Sylvester's dome was more than I can stomach this early. I gotta go lay down again. ; )

Thank You Mace for posting all of the great pictures with great detail and closeups. I can't recall seeing pictures of so many of Jay. Hendrickson's knives together at one time. That was a treat! Looks like a great time for you and everyone else who attended.

:thumbup:I stopped in on Saturday and learned a lot in 2 hours. I wanted to do the 3 day thing but couldn't get away from work for that long. I'm not missing the next one. Thanks for sharing the pics..

What a great weekend all around!!! So much information crammed into three days,a very valuable experience for sure- from Mace's forging demo to Don Fogg's damascus demo to Christoph's integral work to Dr.Batson's heat treating demo and so much more! -another unexpected bonus was getting to connect with a bunch of local makers.I'm already looking forward to next time:D
