I have another chance to pitch the production (IE: $$$) of the book to an interested party. This will be a more elaborate presentation and I have produced the opening 4 pages for each chapter and am trying to decide on the cover designs shown here. Here's your chance to play critic and be a free focus group for me.

The finished size will be 12.5" X 8.5", approximately 200 pages with as many colour photos as possible. Some pages will be just pictures of knives and I have also posted a few sample pages (these are 2 page spreads that would be 25" X 8.5") to give you all a taste.

If you want tell me your preferences. No prizes, no credit, no consensus, no decisions, just a free preview of something that hopefully will get done in the next few years.

John,

I'll go with Book cover #1 (Very elegant) - although they are all very good.

BTW: Can you reserve a low S/N for me.....

Numbers 3, 5, and 8 appeal to me.:o Number 5 is my favorite I think. :p

Great lookin pages too!!!!

Looks absolutely stunning, John! My vote is for 4, 5, 6.
Can you tell me more about the kukri with the strange grind (#4)?

#1 grabs me. For some reason it pulls at me like like a picture of Excaliber in the Stone. The others are good too. But #1 has the romance in it.

I like #1. With the dark color it looks like a serious book. #7 is good also. Not quite as bold but pleasing to my eye.

Can we order autographed copies? :)

Well, my absolute favorite was #7, but then i realized that it was probably the more female-ishness to it and so I think #3 is the best. reason being, marketing. The bright red color will stand out on the shelves much more than duller colors and that is what draws the eye to be enticed to look. Also, red is the color of passion and cravings and we are more prone to buy more and eat more if things are in red......Well it's an opinion :D I'm looking froward to the book. It will be interesting. Nice work!!

I like #1 best. Although #3 does catch my eye too. The sample pages look excellent. Reserve an autographed copy for me, Please.

That is a Nepalese kukri that was reworked in India for someone named Lyall. His name is represented by the cursive flat wire work that covers the checkered ivory grip. The scabbard is heavily re-worked and was once covered with velvet. It is early Victorian and is currently in a very nice private weapons collection. I have never seen the knife, but it certainly is unique and one of a kind.

Number 3 for me.

There is a sense of depth and perspective in that graphic design which gives "weight" to the image. Other blades in a smiliar design might be more eye-catching, dunno.

Very lovely, John.

7, because it seems the most appropriate

1, Because like light sabers, kuks are a weapon of a more elegant age.

5, because it makes my heart beat faster.

1 or 3...put me down for an autographed copy too please!

I like # 3 and # 5. I am happy to think your efforts will be fullfilled. I would be interested to purchase your book. :)

Cover #1 has a elegance & seriousness that stands out from the rest.

The comment re brighter color perhaps could be incorporated into #1
as a highlight without seriously reducing the strength of the cover as a whole.

Maybe by going with an off-grey color (tint) with that color as a highlight--
green yellow blue red,--any has potential.

I need to take a coup[le of minutes with the pages,
but the overall first impression is Great!

:)

They're all well done, but my vote is for number 1 by a large margin. It has the look of a book one would pay a lot of money for. I can't wait either and would pay in advance. Good news that it's coming.

I like the simple elegance of cover #9.
Cover #1, which seems to be a favorite, reminds me of the books I see in the "coffee table" section of Borders Books. But, that may add to it's market appeal.

I like #1 as well. It looks like a very serious reference book. On the other hand I also like #7, it has a look like it belongs on a Martha Stewart (post conviction) coffee table...

It would love an auto-ed copy as well when you sell 'em...

:p
