absolutely unofficial survey re: THE BOOK

I'm sorry John- I was curious about kukri #2, I read the numbering incorrectly.
The fuller on that one looks incredible, unlike any other I've seen.
Definitely sign me up for an autographed copy, I've wanted a good book on kukris for years.

1, 3, 5. Highest contrast between khuk image, lettering and ackground color. They also seem less cluttered than some of the other designs, cleaner. less busy.

Keith

P.S. Just lemme know where to send the check and where the book signing will occur!

I love the first cover, looks kinda "techy", would like it alot more if it had the khukuri from cover #8 tho.

I'd have to go with the layout and color scheme of #1 for the cover. I agree with most of the comments about #1.

miscellaneous comments that refer to some of the others...

I don't think a "novelty font" on the cover really fits.

Truncating an illustration on the cover is kinda distracting, as is running an illustration all the way to an edge.

If there is an overlap, the khuk should be on top, and should contrast well with what is underneath.

#1 might need a slight modification to work well with a different khuk, which khuk to use is well, an agonizing decision. I find some of the other khuks a little more eye-catching, but that's just me. The layour of #1 fits it's khuk well.

Lastly, page layout looks great, and I'd do whatever I could to find the $ to buy the book if the cover was a soiled paper bag.

Hope this is usefull, and good luck getting the backing.

the first one...looks more like a book on the Khukuri its history facts etc... instead the others look like flashy collection of photos inside...the first looks like it would be more of a fact book.

looking forward to getting it when it comes out

I like #1 best, but they are all good designs. I wouldn't be ashamed of any of them. (And I say that as a former professional book and graphic designer. Outstanding job, great pages.

Given the price point at which this book is likely to end up, I doubt that many of the "stand out on a shelf" comments are terribly relevant. This is clearly a book for specialists, and you know we're all slobbering with anticipation.
:D

The layout of #1 cover is what stands out.

But looking closely I think what really makes the cover
is the -very- distinct depth features (including contrast)
of all the elements.

Great, appropriate layout on the pages.
No further comment there.

btw
Please, please, please, please
don't run any pictures across the center fold of the book.
I hates that.
Hates it, hates it, hates it.

I agree with ddean and Jotto that it's the layout of number one that's distinctive and striking to me. It would look great with any khuk you choose.
Favorites (to my inexperienced eyes) are the knives on 2, 4 and 6.

a quick simple variant on cover 1

I'd probably like it even better if it had the backround color as in # 9. The sample pages are gorgeous; it's going to be quite a beautiful book!

John, I like cover #9 best and please reserve me a signed copy of your book. I am looking forward to reading it. :)

I like No. 1. The inside pages are certainly very attractive. Good job. :)

2, 6, and 8 catch my eye the most. But anyone of them can be a real winner! Count me in for getting one copy. =D
