Accurate KMG compatible Flat Platen Attachment C Plates and other stuff

Nathan you were fast , I edited my post to add 2 axle hardware , then checked my e-mail and found your invoice already . So I sent you another e-mail about the addition , sorry for any confusion but we can blame Matthew , his post made me realize I should spent the extra 20 bucks and not be a cheapo . :)
We can always blame Matt! ;) No problem to edit the invoice. I will get it momentarily. Thanks! Jo

Haha, that's funny. I did the exact same thing and sent Jo an apology.

Id like to add a 3rd wheel adapter to my order.
And another hardware set for it.

I'll take
x1 C plate
x2 Third wheels adapters
x3 axle hardware kits

I will take;
2- C plates
1- third wheel adapter
5- axle bolts
and NO my grinder won't track properly in reverse with the platen on...but it does fine in reverse with the 10" wheel...go figure!!!!
thanks!

Nathan, when using the third wheel adapter, you would use this with a rubber belt underneath right? Any recommendations where to get the right dimension rubber belt to work with this?

Josh, I’m using a 320J20 with my setup, and grooved wheels in all three points. This setup absolutely can’t be run without a platen chiller, and I’m experimenting with lubrication for the belt. Initially, the belt was screaming like a banshee after a few minutes of use, so I sprayed it with a few shots of silicone, which quieted it for a bit. After running it for a while, and spraying it periodically, it seemed to settle down. I don’t think I’ve got a total of half an hour running it, but the results are pretty darn neat. I made a platen for use on my KMG rotary platen several months ago, and this setup won’t replace that, for me, but the ability to use the radius platens with it absolutely opens up a number of new possibilities.

Thanks for the tips Matthew! I'm mainly wanting to use this set up for finish grinding (so will be light use). Would love to hear how you have found it useful. So you were able to find a 320J20 that was 2" wide? Would you mind sharing where?

Hi all! Most of these have gone out. I think through Klammer. We had some nuts on backorder, but they are here now and I will work on getting the remainder to the post office Monday. Thank you for your patience! have a great weekend!

Not like it's the only way to use the third wheel setup, but this is how I chose to:

I used three grooved idler wheels, purchased from Midwest Knifemaker Supply. I'm not sure how necessary it is for all three to be grooved, but I did it anyway.

You could easily remove the platen assembly and just run the belt as a 'rotary platen' setup, I'm sure.

The power transmission belt is a 320J20 belt, you can get them all over the place. I got mine from Amazon.

I also bought a C plate and axles for my 'standard' flat platen (mine happens to be carbide), and it's the first time my KMG has had perfect tracking with a platen.

Hope this helps!

Dude that's awesome of you to take a vid of your set up, much appreciated! I tried looking them up on amazon but looks like width is hit or miss with nothing being quite 2". Mcmaster looks like they will custom make smooth belts to your dimensions for pretty cheap so may go that route. Is 32" length what this set up will need?
