Ack! Ebay horror! Look what he did!

The sad part is he's expecting a whole bunch of added value for it.
Maybe ten bucks if you really like it, but as most here would agree the knife was worth more unmodified.
It's kind of funny that he's targeting collectors, who surely would be the last people to buy something like that.

Polymer clay is actually a quite decent and stable handle material and is also somewhat flexible so will not usually get damaged even by being rough with the knife. That being said the patterns can sometimes look pretty cool on damascus blades, but for the most part are a little busy for me. As far as the blade goes he ruined it in my opinion. Would have been a decent knife if he just put the handles on and left it alone. Oh well! If anybody wants to know where to get that polymer clay you can PM me and I'll send you the website!

Nice handle. The rest, well... I wouldn't drop $230 for it. I'd pay the same price as I would for a stock Mule Team blade.

oh Rick Bobadilla! (for some reason even his name sounds humorous to me)
you name wont be forgotten!
like Herostratus

He seems to be good at what he did, so I don't think he can claim ignorance about ruining the heat treat (if he did). I don't know about what it takes to ruin a heat treatment. Are there any people with direct knowledge (1st hand experience or has done the specific research about ruining heat treats) about if this would be possible without exposing the knife to heat treat problems?

Drawing the blade to a light golden color shouldn't really hurt it although it may slightly alter performance. If you look real close at the edge though it looks like it got to a purpleish brown color which could be bad. IIRC temper colors aren't an exact science(depending on draw time, atmosphere etc), so it may be okay, I wouldn't put money on it though.

WOW, that heat temper looks sweet I need to do that to all my blades.:confused:

i dont like it myself, even if its is signed by richard bobadilla, whoever he may be lol.

Somebodies had one tee many martoonies! Either that or he/she joined hands with Timothy Leary a time or two and suffers from flashbacks. Not to my tastes and seems way pricey. To each their own though.

Um..that is /interesting/. I thought Lenny would be joking, but no..he's right. And for what I know, it is easier to ruin HT than you'd think, especially on the cutting edge. And now, I'll leave...

I hate to say it but, fears of heat treat damage aside, I'm intrigued. If I was one to buy knives and keep them mounted safely on my wall, never to be used, this might be an interesting acquisition... I wonder if the tiger striping is done with some sort of coating that's selectively heated (a bit) to produce the stripe affect, without enough heat to damage the blades, anger, er.. temper...

One man's trash is another man's treasure. Having stolen that quote and using it here, I will say that I wouldn't call it a treasure either. But somebody might.

It might also be one of his first knife projects ever, and seeing that I personally have never made a knife or handles, I can't comment on the skill level put into the creation of the handles. Do I personally like it? No.

He is giving away a percentage to charity as well.

Rik

While the handles appear to be interesting I don't think those blades are useful for more then show now. Did everyone notice his other auctions he did 3 Mules like this.
