Acrylic, Brass, and Wooden Skull Beads (Plus Other Carvings)

I use a dremel. I also use engraving bits. Some of my early models were done holding the full sized dremel. I've rresently started using the flex shaft attachment. It is pretty difficult to visualize 3D. Good luck with your carvings.

Some suggestions...

7) Cthulu, for those of you who know what I'm talking about. A complicated job, though, what with all the tentacles.

...

I have received a couple requests for Cthulhu. I decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately, Cthulhu has a squid-like, tentacle filled face. This creates it's own problem with strength not to mention the desire to make the tentacles curled instead of straight down.

I found a pic on the Internet that had a front view of Cthulhu so I could get some inspiration. The pics were extremely detailed so I had to sacrifice some detail to reinforce the tentacles. I'm pretty happy with the final results.

The pig-pink Villian also made me think of something with a pig, or even warthog, motif. Something for the Busse guys...

Next a similar Mercury Helmet only smaller and in aluminum.

Next up a trit-eyes Spartan.

The mushroom idea is pretty cool. I'll add that to my list of ideas.

Regarding Aliens and Predators, the details in these faces are a little to precise to keep the bead size small. I might be able to pull off a masked Predator though.

Base concept drawing. Brass round stock.


Initial shaping and ear cut out.

Mouth formation. The most difficult part at this stage.

I was on the fence on whether I could fit the baby. While it wouldn't have much detail, I couldn't see going though all the work carving the fertility idol without including the babe. You can see some formation below.


I was all over the place at this point. Trying to plan to shoulders, legs, breasts, baby, and butt was way WAY too difficult to visualize. I just kept cutting and sanding until it came together.




Here is a very rough sanding. Smoothing out the deep cuts.


Hair detail cuts.


Finished piece. High shine polish.




Buttocks --v (yeah I have the maturity of a 7 year old)

I think the pic below captured the pain of childbirth pretty well.
