Active Duty

Here is a pair of Snake Skins.
One well worn and the other not so worn.

cheers, Ian.

Its a Linen, and looks to be GL. Could be a Tiger linen, but looks more like GL to me???
Anyway its one of those two for sure:p

Old aged green linen fellas. Unless the color setting on my monitor is really off. Looks great.

I agree with Garth, that is one of the rare old original Active Duties. Notice it also has a double cut finish and the old custom shop logo. The original ADs only had Snakeskin and satin blades, except for a few doublecut ones with the green linen, go take a look at Bad Mojo in the "Past line" under Active Duties. I think the original ADs with a double cut finish were the only ones to have the green linen scales, but I may be wrong. I had one once, the old green linen had more colors in it than the new stuff has, that is why some think it is Snakeskin or Tigerhide. It doesn't have the dominate maroon of Snakeskin or the tan of Tigerhide.

:D

It looks to be one of the really rare ones. Highly collectible if it didn't have the patina.

Thanks for confirming this Garth. I knew my eyesight was ok, but it's nice to have it confirmed from the person who made them.

Best regards,

Les.

That pattern is certainly linen. It looks like tiger hide to me but the old school green linen has the brown color tones to it which make it look so d@mn good.

I changed the post on E-bay to reflect they are either Green Linen or Tiger Hide

Thanks everyone for your expertise!!!

Unless the picture is all messed up I'm pretty sure those are some variant of snakeskin. Fixing the white balance and upping saturation a bit there are distinct reds, blues, and tan colors.

edit: While the colors match up the layering is definately more of a tiger hide or other linen pattern, go with the shop's call on that.

Garth, Ducci, Jerry, or anyone who might know:

Why does mine have the full-height grind and every other pic of one in this thread is more of a 3/4 saber grind???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Green linen, huh??? Well, OK, if those more knowledgeable than myself say so. :o:) ...But I still think its handles look a heckuva lot more like Tigerhide linen micarta, color-wise. That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! :D

I don't know, I can't seem to see past your avatar to see your knife picture!

Seriously, I don't know, maybe someone messed up on the 3/4 saber grind and saved it with a full height grind, it is a Custom Shop knife!

:D

We no longer trust your opinion Jaxx. You better hang your head in shame and send me all of your INFI right away. ;)

Just kidding, I'm just glad to know it is Linen of any kind. I would hate to think it was actually Snakeskin. But I KNEW it couldn't be.

Looks like it could be a poor photo of un-oiled snakeskin to me. I have a pair of snakeskin 1911 grips that did not have the "pop" of most snakeskin until oiled, could almost have passed as green linen.

Exactomundo!!!!!:D

One of my EDCs is the Custom Shop doublecut with the green linen.

It does have way more color in it than the new stuff and for years thought it was SS, until I was able to do a side by side with a satin finished one that did have the SS.

Funny thing is, the price was a bit lower because it was doublecut rather than satin, but you never seem to see the doublecut and the satins are 'fairly' common. IIRC, the guy wanted $225 for the doublecut and $250 for the satin. Doublecut is my favorite finish.

One of my favorite and most used knives. Besides carry, it sees a lot of kitchen duty.:D
