Active Duty

Exactomundo!!!!!:D

One of my EDCs is the Custom Shop doublecut with the green linen.

It does have way more color in it than the new stuff and for years thought it was SS, until I was able to do a side by side with a satin finished one that did have the SS.

Funny thing is, the price was a bit lower because it was doublecut rather than satin, but you never seem to see the doublecut and the satins are 'fairly' common. IIRC, the guy wanted $225 for the doublecut and $250 for the satin. Doublecut is my favorite finish.

One of my favorite and most used knives. Besides carry, it sees a lot of kitchen duty.:D

Finally, someone agrees with me!!!! LOL! :D

My original AD is double cut with black linen :(

:D

Looks like "well used" green linen to me, I haven't really seen black linen used except on the older straight handle knives. ;)

:D

Never heard of the black linen. Doesn't make it not so though.:foot:

The green did have a LOT of variation. Mine is darker than the one being discussed, but lighter than yours. Not by much though. No green in yours at all?

Mine is pretty much solid black at the moment, from use.:D Maybe I should get un lazy and wash the handles, but don't want to shock the knife.:D

If it wasn't for Les, I would have snagged an AD. I love that knife. I like the Nuc a tad more. :D
Thanks for the Nuc, Les!

No problem dude. Glad I could help a hog out. You still need an AD though. They are pretty sweet knives.

Those are sweet handles. I didn't even know they made Double Cut/Linen AD's to go along with the Satin/SnakeSkin ones. I would love to have a linen handled AD like that. I can see it being black linen as well. Whether intentionally black or not, it looks black to me.

Thanks for sharing it.

From the Busse website August 2002, it says satin BL, Somewhere around here I have a brochure listing the DC black linen I have.

$237.00 The Active Duty is small enough to carry everyday and tough enough to tackle the most difficult chores. The Black Linen Micarta handles really set off the satin finished blade. The blade is etched with the Busse Custom Shop logo as each knife is completely hand finished. Available in either left or right hand models.

Garth, Ducci, Jerry, or anyone who might know:

Why does mine have the full-height grind and every other pic of one in this thread is more of a 3/4 saber grind???

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a pic of this. I have 3 with the full height grind, that I know where done by Jerry. (these are the only 3 I know of that were done by Jerry)
I know of one other that was an aftermarket job not done at the Shop.
I owned it for a while and may be able to tell if yours is it. (I sold it with the description that it had aftermarket work done, but who knows if that description followed it)

All, except custom pieces had the 3/4 grind.

I think pics are pretty inadequate for this discussion. Too many variables in cameras, monitors, etc. Plus the snakeskin can vary in color, depending on how deeply it was milled, oiled vs. not oiled.

One of those deals where you pony up the cash to get it in hand, then bring it out at Blade/Fogo/Knob Creek to BS with the old timers about what it really might be. It's going to be a functional knife, and it looks good whatever the handles are, so no loss there. Only problem would be if you needed the ultra-rare variety to occupy the one vacant spot in the collection, you put out the $$$$, and closer inspection reveals it to be the common $$ version. But that's part of the fun of the chase.

I think the Custom Shop Snakeskin ADs made one of the first, if not the first Shop Shipping department glamor shots. Hundreds of beautiful blades, all in neat rows. That's why the snakeskin is seen more often than other materials - a ton got made.

Those are awesome, I hope you still own them. Perfect examples of full height and 3/4 height grinds as well. Very cool pair with an AD.

Thanks for sharing those.

Les.

......and will the real SnakeSkin please stand up!:D

Old School......
