I wonder how much all of this is related to Kevin Jones (very) recent decision to leave the Forum.

I'm a nobody, not a collector, not a maker (of knives), not an entrepenuer, but I do read and enjoy (for the most part) the informative posts on this forum. Having said that, I realize my opinion/opinions are not very important, but I do have one fairly strong opinion, and that is that since two valuable contributors have elected to leave the forum, that I believe the wrong people decided to leave.

The other Paul

kevin, i wouldnt let a couple of TROLLS keep you out of custom & handmade knives. its lowlifes like these that need ran out.:D

Please stay.

While it's impossible for everyone here to all get along, I think it's important to keep a wide variety of viewpoints.

Otherwise the group, as a whole, loses.

Kevin , dont know you at all , but have read many of your posts.

Now while you may feel this way now , which is totally understandable , hopefully you will step away and see things differently.

Since I don't know you , I can only guess , but it seems as though you have many virtual friends on this forum. A forum of total kumbaya , would get old quick.

Yes some of the bashing gets old , but occasionally out of those type threads meaningful discussions evolve.

I have only been to Blade once , and I can't honestly recall many knives that I saw there , other than the pictures I took , but I can remember all the people from the various forums I met there.

Some were nothing like they are online , and some are.

Hopefully you will just take a haitus , or step away for awhile and return to enjoy some discussions with some old friends , and make some new ones as well.

When you take a look at any forum , the knives may be what brought us all together , but it is the interaction with each other and the community like feel that keeps us coming back.

Years ago I was banned from BF , yet I asked Spark to give me a 2nd chance , some who no longer visit BF told me I was nuts to want to come back , the reason I did it was each forum is different and none are purfect. Each forum has its experts , some self proclaimed , some proclaimed by the community , each has it's trolls , bad blood , red haired step sisters and arguements. It's just like a family , you never agree all the time , sometimes you just gotta agree to disagree and leave it at that.

You get out of a forum what you put in , take away the stuff you dont like ( meaning dont read it ) and you will see you have a place that you can enjoy.

Face it , we are all survivors on the island of misfit toys , with our sharp , shiney and sometimes expensive toys , nobody needs to be voted off :)

BF is a jungle . . . of egos all vying for significance. The 1st law of the jungle is that the carnivores will come after you when you reach the top. You are at the top because of your thread-making leadership. Even our lovable curmudgeon, STeven, cedes you that.

The folly of quitting falls in 3 realms of vast underestimation:

1. Your leadership status (read this thread)

2. How well you are perceived (remember, men can't say I love you until the divorce papers are filed or the coroner knocks.

3. How many points your tag-team nemeses have lost recently (we were silent but not blind and dumb?).

If you still want to quit after these self-evident truths, then you're not the man I thought you were. Come on, strap on that helmet and buckle-up, we're racing past your pity party to reach the end of story, where even in the 21 century most of us need the good guy to win. That's you, Kevin.

Over the top but largely true ... and really well written!

Kevin, the water is warm and fine and friendly over in the maker's forum, feel free to join us over there.

Hey Kevin,

Don't leave man! You warned me of slow days in my blah/blah thread and if you leave that will definitely happen - I think you account for 50% of all posts in this forum over the last few months.

All kidding aside, it doesn't make sense. I don't think anybody here has used names and I certainly haven't kept up with all the long posts (I guess I just don't read fast enough), but I seem to get the jist that it's Peter and Roger that you have been having issues with.

If so, I just don't get it. From what I recall all three of you LOVE ABS-style forged knives by the top makers in that realm. Few people here seem to be as much into those top makers as the 3 of you. Can't you just bury your differences and focus on that common interest that brought you guys into this custom-knife-forum in the first place?

If I got it wrong and it is not Roger and Peter, then I apologize to all 3 of you and obviously have no clue who it is.

In any case, you are a valuable contributor and I hope you stick around - maybe stay away from the hot topics for a few days or weeks. Sometimes a breather works wonders.

I certainly hope my thread didn't contribute to your exit consideration. I certainly had no one person in mind with my thread but more the 'air' of conflict that has been stinking up the place (no matter who was involved).

Even if you leave this forum, I hope to see you again at some future show. I really enjoyed meeting you at the ABS show and our conversations there.

Best regards,
Thor

I don't post much compared to others, but I do read ALOT. For what it is worth, I have to agree with sheathmaker.

that I believe the wrong people decided to leave.

It ain't worth getting too upset over, but of course you know that. Take a break, mellow out and recharge the batteries, and then come back and insult the crap out of them.

Ken Williams, you sure are articulate. I really like reading your posts. I agree with Joss, that was well written.

Kevin,

I have enjoyed your (and many many other members) posts. While I have always loved knives I am new to actually attempting to make some of my own for myself and maybe a friend or two!! I don't collect, make as a business and probably never will but people like you and the other professionals are what I like about this forum. The information and knowledge you all share is priceless for someone like me. You and many others here are the backbone of this site and it would be a shame to lose your insight. No, we may not all like the style of knife one makes or may prefer a folder over a fixed blade - that is not the point. What is important is what you share for all of us.

Hopefully you will reconsider but I have seen it before in other forums - while these are "public" forums there is a tendency for some to try and dominate for whatever reason. The choice ultimately is yours but it would be a shame to lose your participation.

Whatever you chose to do I wish you the best.

Peter,

You just need to come to your senses my good man. None of us here had a waking clue until Kevin showed up to take us by the hand and show us the true path. So just do whatever Kevin says, okay? Really, that's all that's required - is it really asking so much? If you would simply follow his edicts, then he wouldn't have to keep track of the threads where he has perceived that you have offended them and publicly air your transgressions (usually in an unrelated thread, long after the fact, but hey...)

Roger

Thanks Roger! :)

I am coming to my senses!

I feel much better now that you have explained it to me.

I think that one of life's lesson's is that no matter how well you succeed at something the thing that people most remember about you is your lowest moment.
Fine restaurant, elegant meal, filthy rest room. You don't go back as all you remember is the filthy rest room. It doesn't take much to undo a good deed.
I suspect strongly that Kevin's support off line is even greater than on the Forum.

"Top Dog" , not in my book, Sarah Bernhardt, how appropriate.

Paul,
Great post. Kevin is a class guy and has many friends. He will be missed here.
Sometimes the top dog is just a cur that bullies the rest of the pack and makes alot of noise.

WoW David, Fisk Knives & Knife Erotica is a combination that could bring Elvis back.

But seriously, I would like to thank everyone for the e-mails and telephone calls I have received over the last few days. I was told there had been some activity on this thread, however upon visiting here last night, I was’t expecting ALL THIS .

As I read every post, many twice and a few even three times it became obvious that beyond all your kind and supportive words that I have let you folks down in leaving.

I thought it best to remove myself from the conflict here, (yes) created in part by my own actions, before things got out of hand. I have decided to take some time to settle down and to reflect on recent events here and return with a more relaxed and tolerant perspective. That doesn't however, include letting rude and potential damaging post go un-challenged.

I would like to comment on and thank each of you for every post above, however since I can’t do all individually; I would just say “thank you” and this is a GREAT, close-nit not so little community we have here.

I hope to see many of you at the Blade Show and I will be back here soon picking your brains with all my many annoying questions.
