Do any of you guys buy from Admiral steel? I just looked at their prices on 52100 and was let's say SHOCKED. Am I missing something here? Did the chromium market go haywire? I inquired about it and was told that the prices are correct. They want $44.25 for a 1/8" x 1-1/2" x 12" flat.

There is a guy in Jersey that will sell you a similar piece of steel for $18.25. I say similar because his piece is 48" not 12". If you don't need the extra 36", I'd be willing to dispose of it for you. :)

Yeah, I looked at Aldo's price for a sanity check before I called Admiral. Amazing!

Aldo has good prices on 52100, I had them cut me a 12"x48" piece of 1/4" for 180$ almost a year ago.

In the reading I've done:

Admiral has some incidents of non accidental mis labelling, or selling one steel as another because the difference wasn't important to them

and some badly warped shearing strips

Enough to make me wary

Why not shop Aldo, who deserves our trust.

It seems as companies get bigger and bigger customer service is the first thing to go, lets hope aldo stays the same down to earth guy when he reaches the size of admiral, I buy from both and never had an issue with either

I have no comment on Admiral.

For the last few years I've been buying steel almost exclusively from NJSB and Alpha Knife Supply. Every once in a while USAknifemaker has a certain size on hand when the first two don't. I have never had a single problem with those three vendors.

Been a few years, but I used to buy all my 1084 from Admiral, before Aldo was sellin and never had any problems. Price was good also.

Lets see in the last 12-14 years,- Admiral is all I've bought
from. No complaints. And as Don said above good prices.
Ken.

I buy from a number of places. Mostly Admiral or Flatground.com. You just cant find better prices, usually. That's why I started this post. I saw their price on 52100 and was floored. I still think it's a mistake.... I have purchased from just about everybody with no issues from any of them.

I live about an hour from Admiral and have bought some 1095 from them in the past.

That said, anymore I buy all of my steel from Aldo. It's not that I had any problems with Admiral or their steel, it's mainly just because of Aldo's reputation and customer service. That, and he carries a couple of steels that Admiral does not, which I use.

I've had no issues with Admiral, almost $20,000 total spent there so far, maybe I'm lucky. They also usually have what I need and ship it fast. That's more than I can say about most of the other vendors.... but in fairness I've been pleased with USA knifemaker and Niagra as well.

Some of their prices are good, others not so much. Always best to shop around! Sometimes having expensive steel in three days is better than cheap steel in 3 weeks, or who knows when.

I buy steel from Pop's, Jantz, Admiral, Alpha supply, and Tru Grit according to the current best price. I bought 12 feet of 440 c and CPM 154 from Admiral recently and was very happy with price, shipping, and packaging. I would buy from them again. I also like pop's who gives some good prices on the few steels he stocks. I have not dealt with Aldo only because I have to phone. I like ordering online. Larry

I have ordered steel from Admiral for the past 20 years and never had a problem with getting the wrong steel or sizes. Postage has never gone wrong either and I'm from Australia. the quickest I have got it delivered was 8 days and that's as good as it gets. I know some makers have had issues with them , and lets face it one bad experience out weighs hundreds of positive ones, but can you imagine how many orders they process every day year in year out. I can't fault them so far.

Every time I order (a whole 2 times so far) from njsteelbaron.com it is all online.

am I the only one to buy from NSM? I just bought a 24" x 36" x 0.207" thick sheet of CPM154 and I had a good customer service.

NSM? Do they have 1084, 1086M, 15N20, W2?
