Advice for a clueless girlfriend...

On thing about Chris Reeves knives is they have a birth date. If there's a date with any significance to him you can check for a knife with the match. Being a relativly expensive knife you'll find retail stores are willing to engage to make sure you're happy.

....edit, whoops I'm dumb. :D

Could you get him a gift card from one of the dealers and let him pick exactly what he wants? I know maybe not as exciting as opening a package but I like choosing what I want. On the other hand anything from you he will probably cherish as super special.

The prevalent sentiment here seems to be for a large Sebenza 21 "Plain Jane" (unadorned titanium handle) or for the large 21 with Micarta inlays. I agree wholeheartedly as the 21 is the classic model available new today and the large will fit your guy better. The small is, well, too small for a guy with large hands.

The Micarta-inlayed knife is more expensive, affords better grip, and will absolutely blow your guy away. Nothing wrong with the Plain Jane either. As others have noted, buy from a reputable dealer--one of those linked or mentioned in earlier posts--as the price for an authentic knife will be the same everywhere, including from CRK themselves. @Lapedog 's post earlier is a great guide and I agree about choosing the standard blade style for one's first Sebenza.

Such a great and generous gift. Your boyfriend is one lucky guy to have both you and a new Sebenza!

Agreed on the large 21 with micarta. If he likes something at least a little fancy, don't buy him a plain. If someone gave one to me it would be for sale the same day.

I hope nobody ever gets you anything. That would be a douche bag thing to do.
Sorry you feel that way. Everyone has different preferences. No point in keeping something you won't use. I've kept shirts I received as gifts in the closet for years that were never worn because I didn't like them. They ended up at Goodwill instead of returning them and getting something else. That's what is dumb. It isn't about appreciating the gift. The thought is always important. It's more about having something you will use. Anything else is just stuff accumulating dust. And for the record, I have 5 CRKs so I don't need another.

You sound fun to gift shop for. :rolleyes:o_O

I get your point, but there is a "the thought that matters aspect" it's like crapping on a free Porsche because you would have ordered gray instead of silver.

Getting off topic-but you would never get a Sebenza from someone that you could even consider selling their present, much less your girl friends gift. Or I hope not.
Back on topic-This is a fabulous thing she is doing and I am sure he will cherish what ever she picks. The Ti is the basic model, everything else are add ons and embellishment. If he has been looking at the basic, then that should work fine. One warning though-not everyone likes bare metal scales. Also if you live in a cold area, bare ti scales can get cold . That said even the basic Ti scale is a great knife and while it isn't for everyone, I am sure they sell more of those then any other and they are much loved by their owners.
I recommended the Micarta inlay, but I have a plain ti also-slightly different , but both excellent.

Just putting this out there: I will accept plain titanium handle CRK knives from anyone here, and I will keep them. They will not go up for sale.

In fact, I will even post threads of me using them. :)
So buy for me with confidence!!!
(I will now begin waiting for the offers to roll in ;)).

if ya realize you changed your mind........ I'll be happy to have it regifted to me. I also wont look down on you for being a regifter.:)

If I get gifts and are not using them, I will gift them to someone who I think will. Gifts should be passed on as gifts, not sold for money that you didn't spend to get that gift. I think it just all comes down to that karma thing!

You can't go wrong with any of them. Being Gifted a Sebenza would be really impressive and a keepsake regardless of the style. Heck being a gift would encourage me to use it that much more.

Good Luck and You'll make him happy regardless of the style.

If I ever come into a generous amount of money I'll buy you one and have "STABMAN!™" engraved on the showside, so better trademark that name! ;)

Hey y’all,

I am looking to purchase a Chris Revee sebenza for my boyfriend. The problem is my lack of knowledge on knifes, with all the different options/ choices it’s very intimidating. About two years ago I purchased a zero tolerance 0566 CF for him, which he loved and still carries today. What he loves about the knife is the large size (he has large hands), deep pocket clip, flipper and just the durability of it. I know the next step up is a Chris Revee and I know he likes the Sebenza model. Other than that I’m lost as to the different specs and what makes one Sebenza better than an other (steel?). He has wanted this knife for years and now that I’m finally able to do it I want to make sure and get it right. He has absolutely no idea I’m getting this for him and I don’t want to ask any questions and give it away. Any advice on what to go with would be amazingly helpful!

Thanks in advance!!!
I could be wrong, but in scanning the replies I did not see anyone mention that the disadvantage of an inlaid handle is that is thicker in your pocket. Sure it's a slight amount, but to me that matters... maybe to your BF too. A plain Sebenza is more likely to be the user you both hope it will be and still a damn nice gift.

Any of them! I'm sure he'll love whatever you choose. Go with a large if he likes larger knives.

You know him better than we do so just go with your instict and I'm sure he'll be happy.

There are some fun ones with graphics that might appeal to one of his interests. I always liked the crop circle sebenzas. Another one with a leopard is very cool.

But get him whatever. If he doesnt like it there's 10,000 guys here who will be waiting for you with roses.
