advice for a new hunter

I forgot to ask, are you knowledgeable in the area of field dressing game? Also, try tanning the hides of the animals you take. I could go on and on, but I guess I have rambled enough. Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice guys... K williams I have last years lic. which will serve untill I can get this years on oct 1... I have already applied for my seasonal access permit, and have an hip #. R wiggins.. While I'm read up on proper cleaning and skinning of game my real world experience in this area is lacking... Thanks for all the help, everyone.

Have you looked around for any area specific sportsman forums? There are several hunting/fishing forums online that cater to the area I live in. Those guys are great sources of advice, and many of them organize trips together. They are always interested in helping newbies out.

OH...I forgot to mention, Riley....

"Dressing game" is not at all what it sounds like.

Do NOT bring little coats and pants for the pheasants you get. It will mark you as a newbie, right away.

:D

this is gonna be fun for you. neat.

If you have last year's license, you can purchase the new license in advance online through DECALS. They sent me my new license about 2 weeks ago.

Try to identify where the game is feeding and where theyre bedding/cover sites are and place yourself in between in the morning and evening. I agree it sounds like over-simplification but it works. The details will come to you the more time you spend in the field. Oh yeah, Take a small pad/seat. You'll sit stiller and longer if you're comfortable. And enjoy yourself, there's a reason they call it hunting instead of killing--KV
