Advice for folding camp knives

I really want to love my peasant, but sadly mine is one of the bent ones. still trying to sort it out, but until then it just doesn't sit right.

I can never decide between the 8, 9, and 10 Opinel...then it's carbon vs SS since it won't rust...then I usually decide I like my SAK better anyway and never buy one. Maybe one of these days.

Theres not much better you can do for a folding knife than the rat and the only improving on a Sak is going fill sized which you've already done.

I think you've made fine choices and should maybe just invest in a machete or saw

I've added the uncoated Rat 1 and Opinel 7 and 8 in SS to my collection. I should be set, but I keep buying more.

Need a carbon opinel

Carbon #12 in relation to a piece of printer paper:

The wife has me on a short leash right now as we are going on a vacation soon. But I did manage to sneak in an order for a Cold Steel Finn Wolfe. This may be an inexpensive and utilitarian option for you.

I'm interested in one of those, but want to do some research because I've read about some problems with the edge. I love Cold Steel products though.

Size reference pics. Slightly smaller than an Endura. It feels slightly smallish in an xl hand.

I have other fish to fry right now. But I will likely bring it to the north and play with it up there. If I remember, I'll post something about it. It's just a cheap knife like a common SAK. I don't expect it to be a light saber.

:) I don't either. Some of the website reviews I read mentioned the edge rolling pretty easily. That's what I'm mostly concerned with.

I understand your concerns as I read the same thing. Today I sliced up a three foot piece of local two year dried Choke Cherry, considered a "hard" hardwood. I found no edge damage on my knife. I will try to upload a video showing that the spine of the knife as it comes from the factory works perfectly well with a fero rod, another fire making plus for this little folder, if chosen for the task. I am self taught with computers so I might mess this up................

Video was shot in the dark so give it a few seconds, I meant to say spine, not edge, for the fero strikes.

About the only advantage I see with this over a 1/3 the price Heavy Duty Companion is that it folds into a fairly tiny package. I think that some of us just like the novelty of a new toy. Myself anyway. :)

That's a good point. I'm not sure I'm in many situations where I couldn't throw the HD in my pack with a SAK or Rat in my pocket and not be alright.

I don't need another folding camp knife, but I want one :) I recently bought a Cara Cara 2 in FRN and really love it. I'm shocked, but may actually buy another. I'm also thinking about a Buck Vantage Select. How would one of those be as a camp knife?

Throughout my teenage years my edc was an EKA Lil Swede. I used it then not because I thought it was the best knife but because it was the only one I could afford with a stainless blade. I spent a lot of time on and in the water and the blade never showed the first sign of rust or corrosion. For the price point I would look at the newer version which I believe is the Swede 38. I tried a Buck Vantage Select for awhile and had no issues with it. A friend had a fit when he saw it so I gave it to him and went back to my 110. If you are okay with carrying your folder in a sheath I would look at the Buck 110.
