Advice for the zombie apocalypse

You said it jde....and nydude too....politics play a big role along with liability. My mother still has a whole cupboard filled with expired canned food. We eat some at every family gathering according to her. We're still alive. I've heard it's also so the companies can cover their butts and keep selling and selling. Also helps to know how to properly can and dehydrate your own foods for long term storage.

At my last job one of our Marketing guys was a huge Twinkie fan.
He took one out of the wrapper, put it on a glass plate and let it sit out for 3 years.
On its 3 yr. anniversary, he cut it and the sponge was still reasonably soft, and the filling was still soft too!
The Twinkie still looked and smelled good, but nobody dared eat it.

True story! :D

I would have eaten it. May have to try that one but having a twinkie sit around for 3 years and me not eating it is not very likely. How did you resist. You must be a jedi or something.

You don't tug on superman's cape
You don't spit into the wind
You don't pull the mask off that old lone ranger
And you don't mess around with Jim

I tell my wife that about canned foods all the time. And I also tell her that if the fit hits the shan, before we even touch our food supply, my neighbors stupid barking dog is going on the grill. Haha!

That twinkie was probably impregnated with dusk if it was sitting uncovered. Stick to expiration dates on perishables, but it's nonsense on canned goods. It's about taste, not safety, as was mentioned. Most bottled water also has an expiration. As long as it's stored away from heat and sunlight, they last forever

I also agree that a Ruger 10/22 with 50-round banana magazines is the best gun you can take. I have plenty of AK's and AR's, but you can carry substantially more .22 ammo than 5.56, 5.45, or 7.62. Also, most of the hunting you will do won't be deer and large game. You'll eat a lot of rabbits, squirrels, and other small game to just put some food on the table. It will be great if you can take bigger game, but it just won't happen as often. Trying to kill squirrels with 7.62 isn't going to go well. .22 is also much quieter, especially suppressed.

I have a Henry Golden Boy Lever action .22 , its a beauty, just have to keep the brass polished. Its a really accurate .22. Well I know it would be hard to reload if being swarmed by ravenous corpses after firing all 15 rounds , but got my CZ.85 and TGLB as backup lol.

I'd stick with the Ruger BX-25 magazine for a 10/22. You may be able to get a bigger mag, but I don't think you can get one that's more reliable or more durable. And in the zombie apocalypse, a magazine failure would be a very bad thing.

That and darn near every house in my area is bound to have a box of .22 shells in it somewhere.

believe it or not, the golden boy isn't really brass. It's actually a yellow clear coat sprayed over a polished reciever. I believe they nickel coat them prior to spraying but I'm not 100% on that part of it.

You're HARDCORE Josh!!!

He brought in fresh Twinkies, so we gladly scarfed them down! :D --

My dad still has a pile of Desert Storm (91-92) MREs. The main meals are "edible" but the cheese is suspect.....

I'll add another vote for the 10/22 and am surprised that I didn't notice anybody mention a Rucki yet. I wanna keep the undead stragglers a bit farther than a TGLB away, the Rucki would work well in that regard after the 10/22 runs dry.

I also suggest that you keep your gas/diesel tanks full. You never know when the Zombie Apocalypse will hit and I'd like to drive as far as possible before ending up on foot. Your vehicle is not only transport but can also be mobile shelter-if you have fold down seats to the trunk 😈

I was referring to the Ruger BX25-2 magazines. They're like a double sided version of the BX25, but they weight less than 2 BX25's. They're made by ruger and equally reliable.

You may be correct on the nickel plating . I just got it out and gave it another cleaning and a good time for a photo-op.
