Advice on a 150$ folder

Spyderco Sage 1 or 2 is nice. Honestly the Victorinox Pioneer in silver looks very nice. It's about thirty dollars. You could even get a Sage 1 too. There going for around $108. You'd have enough left for a drink as well.

Happy Birthday anyway.
Save a little more $ and get the one you want.
Finish school, get a job you love, buy one of each....
At the risk of sounding pretentious, I have no safe queens and I don't care to waste money on knives and tools that I won't use. That being said, thank you, I appreciate the sentiment!

I think the bm birrage has a nice look to it. The barrage with 154 cm steel is around that 150 mark. I love mine but I can never remember the model numbers.
Personally not a fan of the Barrage or BM's pricing policy. Especially given all the nicer options out there for less.

Small, dressy, functional and around $150?
Spyderco Sage 2 would be my choice.
Doesn't do it for me. Too similar to my Manix2 and UKPK IMO. It is a cool knife though, I'll have to see if there's any place I can check one out in person.

Zt 0770cf is on amazon for 130 right now. Great price on a quality knife. And obviously, the exchange is always loaded with great deals.
I got a ZT 0770cf for $144 shipped and it is awesome I deassisted it and a after a little bit it got very loose and I am very happy with it. It's also sleek and light so it can very easily be considered a gentlemans folder if you ever dress up.
This would be my recommendation as well. Mine has been my primary EDC since I got it a few months ago.
Of my recent knives, I really like the ZT 0770CF and I just picked up a Spydie Native 5 (G10 and S35VN). I recommend either of these although my 0770CF cost more than $150. Been carrying the ZT since I got it a when they first were released. Like it.
While the 0770's blade is simply awesome, I'm no fan of the handles and honestly my Manix2 feels too bulky in my pocket given how much I use it on campus. Can't imagine the 0770 would be better.

GO with a ZT I acquired the 550 a week ago and bought the 561 a few days later.
Already on it, have an 0560. Great on the farm, but it's too much weight to lug around campus.

I like the idea of a 940. For me, it's been one of those knives I've wanted since I first saw it, and just recently I decided I have to get one. Props to you for using the money for a knife and not the usual, unfortunate ritual that comes with such the birthday.
I really want to own a 940. Recently got to handle one and the size to blade ratio is fantastic. Sadly, the post-MAP price is less than awesome. :/

Dfly nijishian fiber or th m390 ritter ffg from cutkry shop exclusive thats better then the grip its ffg.then get some custome scales same ones you get for the griptillian
That's what I've been thinking. 130 is too much for a mini grip, but in M390 that's pretty appealing. Plus there's now a few reasonable options for aftermarket scales. Really looking at the Russian guy in the Custom Makers section- his stuff is fantastic.

I think that a Spyderco Sage 1 or a Caly 3 would be a good choice. Nice three-inch blade, fits the hand and good steel.
I'll look at the Spyderco catalog again, but honestly the Native5 has been the only knife that really wow'd me recently, especially now that I have a UKPK & Manix2.

The 530 is a sweet knife, I love mine, fast, sharp, pointy, light and concealable. It is a time proven design kept up to date.
If only it was available in anything but 154CM.... outside of the ridiculous Gold Class knives that is.

Take a look at the Chaparral and maybe even save a few bucks...I think it is one of the best for-the-money folders out there. If you want to move closer to $150, the DPX HEAT is around that price. Important for college and being of-age, it includes a bottle opener!

Man oh man that DPX HEAT looks nice. However, I really can't stand DPX's marketing, or RYP himself. Silly, I know, but he really turns me off from the brand.

Spend a few more bucks and go check out Knifeworks zt 0562 price ;)
Don't tempt me, I can't spend the extra scratch and I really should remain loyal to my 0560. :)

Spend a bit less and get a Manix 2 in S110V, an AWESOME value IMO, plenty of other people will say the same thing

Way ahead of you :P Love it, but even given how light it really is it feels like a bit much for the trivial stuff I use my knife for on campus.

I turned 21 yesterday. It's a big number, but not one I could really take advantage of for various reasons. I received about 150$ in birthday money, which I'm incredibly grateful for as my family (extended included) barely qualifies as lower middle class. As I have no wish (or reason) to drink until well after I recover (been sick for a couple of weeks) I want to put this money towards a knife as a present to myself for not getting to drink and working full-time yesterday instead of celebrating. I currently live on a college campus (and I've got a decent collection of folders), so I'm looking at something relatively small and dressy, albeit functional. I'm thinking one of the new M390 Mini-Grips, but I've also been considering a Benchmade 530 or 940, or one of the Native5 S110v sprint runs, although those last two are a little out of my price range. I'm having a tough time making a decision, so I'd greatly appreciate any advice/input, or new suggestions for that matter. Thanks guys!

Here are some different choices to consider besides spyderco and ZT.

Small dressy functional & sweeeet... Spyderco Air. Surprised no one's mentioned it.

To be specific, I would put a bit of personal money in and play the pre-order lottery for the CF S90V Yojimbo 2 sprint run.

Other than that I can only say I've been most happy with my Spyderco knives (though this may have as much to do with the company as the product), which one you find most appealing is highly personal.
To throw some contrast into the "dress knife" idea, I bought a Civilian almost ten years ago now, and the only time I've carried it is with a suit and tie. Somehow it seems fitting. It's functional, yet delicate, and not something you see every day, like the suit. Maybe it reminds me of the ornamental weapons on dress attire of generations gone by, or maybe I'm just a redneck desperately trying not to conform.

In order of preference, my recommendation are:
Bm940
Spyderco pm2
BM 530
Bm707
Happy birthday, wish you get well soon.

The ZT 0350 CF or the ZT 0770CF!

Happy Birthday and hope you get recovered quickly!

Way ahead of you :P Love it, but even given how light it really is it feels like a bit much for the trivial stuff I use my knife for on campus.

Have you ever considered a two layer 93mm Vic SAK or a traditional slipjoint? I do like the Native 5. But it is only just a little smaller than the Manix2.

I could see myself carrying a Native quite easily in college.

Small and dressy = Spyderco Chaparral. Then take the remaining $40 to $50 and buy a Savings Bond and let it mature. At least you will have something nice for your money that you won't regret.

I would go Ti UKPK, Northwoods Hawthorne, Spyderco GB air in that order. Al mar light, lionsteel opera, ag Russell gentlemen's ti framelock, case/Bose collab also come to mind!

Under $150 Gentlemanly?

Spyderco:
Gayle Bradley
Caly 3 CF/ZDP-189 (I happen to be selling a lightly used one for a very reasonable price)

Brous Bionic (can be found for under $150 if you look hard enough. I got mine for $120)

LionSteel:
Opera series--Traditional style, D2 steel, available in a variety of handle materials, under $100.
SR-2A--Aluminum version, have seen it for less than $150

Zero Tolerance:
Not really a "gentleman's" folder, but the 0566 is in your price range
0770CF as well.

ZT 0801 Rexford flipper. It's like a dress tactical folder. A very elegant titanium framelock.
