Guys, I am guessing you all have a play with hand guns here or there and have your meets at knob creek etc.

I am about to buy a pistol for combat competition and want to know if anybody has had experience with the following;

HS 2000;
HS2020001.jpg

Glock 17;
Glock20171.jpg

Any advise would be great as they are about the same price here. I do like the safety feautures on the HS and it is getting good reviews, especially with 4 free magazines and cleaning kit with it!

Grip ergonomics are two main differences. The HS200 is basically the SA XD. I have owned several Glocks and the ergonomics were never right for me. The XD fits my hand better and shoots just as well as a Glock, in my case better. YMMV, your best bet is to get somewhere to shoot booth or at the very least handle them to see how they feel. In my experience they are both equally accurate if you do your part.

I have always liked the Glocks I have shot.....never had any problems.. My brother recently got a Springfield XD and it retired his Browning .40 that he loved so much. He loves is. If my brother can recommend them, I guess I can too. From what I saw, the XD looks like an evolution of the HS2000......right now all I have are wheel guns...I sold my autos when I got married..........(ducking now!) :D

Thankls guys. I have organised to go to the local club to shoot both tomorrow as some other members have them, but from what I have hear, the HS was pretty damn good. The extra barrel assembly length is good too which means I do not have to fit an extender (they look crap!). I will keep you posted.

For 9MM Polymers I've been looking at the Glock like you, the SA XD, the S&W M&P, the FN 9MM and some Sigs...hard to figure out what I want....I think I might just play it safe and easy and go with a Browning Hi Power...the 2 tone one :D

Well, let's see..............I'm G19G26. The first two of many Glocks I've owned. I've held an FFL and I carry my G26 everyday. Shoot spiffed up Glock 19 and 21 in competition. Love the Glocks. Best ever.

Soap box off:D

I've owned both the Glock and XD...I would suggest you hold lots of guns, you will know the right gun for you when it's in your hand (it will naturally point where you look). I don't think you will have problems with either the Glock or XD/HS2000, it's more about the shooter and how the gun fits you.

I ended up with a pair of XD's, my brother opted for the S&W M&P, wife shoots a SIG...we all love our guns.

Let us know how it turns out.

The HS-2000 was first. Springfielf Armory bought the rights, (at least for the USA imports) put their name on it and then raised the price.

If replacement parts supply are a concern, you might consider the Glock. You can get parts for them anywhere. For certain parts replacement, Springfield Armory requires that you send the gun in to them for replacement. Since you're in Australia, this may or may not be an issue, but it's something to find out FIRST.

That said, the only part I've broken on mine was the "cocked indicator" which is a part that they sent me so I could replace it myself.

I made Grand Master with mine and won a few state titles, so I've got a few rounds thru it. It's not the most accurate, but the ergonomics are very good. The trigger isn't the best and I had work done on mine.

The Glock equivalent would be the Glock 34 in 9mm, or Glock 35 in .40 S&W.

Smith and Wesson will have their 5" M&P coming out any day now and will take a serious chunk of the IPSC pie. This will be due to, again, ergonomics, but also parts availability and it's the only one of the 3, so far, to allow an owner-customized fit.

None of them will let you down.

Get the HS. Not only is it a great pistol but it is very hard to find in its original HS brand, not the SA XD, and a collector's item.

I'd say the glock... I carry a G22 at work and a G19 the rest of the time... love my glocks

Gundy---When I went pistol shopping, I asked the people who use firearms as professionals, what they recommend. Here is basically what I heard: All said Glock except for two, who chose H&K. I had a Glock-17 that week. As you know, there's more to it than that. But that's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

Glocks are for girls and sissy's....

Get a real man's gun....a 1911 and shoot a real man's bullet.

Everyone I know that has a glock just settles on it and it's tip up point of aim.
It's just a cheaper copy of a Raven as far as I'm concerned.

I carried the standard beretta m-9 in iraq and was an ok shot with it. I shot a glock 19 and from the start was a lot beter shot with it, seemed it firt my hand a lot better.

Now that Chuck has broken the ice (SPLASH!), I can ask the question I had:

Are you only focusing on the plastic fantastic models for a reason?

Gaston Glock is a genius for functional industrial design, but his products are devoid of soul. A Browning HiPower or CZ-75 (or its variants) have ergonomics that crush those of the Gxx models and their wannabes. I understand a desire for reliability, but you can get that without sacrificing elegance and beauty. And that doesn't even consider those revolting triggers on the Glocks....

Rick - who wishes he could choke the screenwriter who wrote Tommy Lee Jones' lines in "U. S. Marshals".

My vote would be for the Glock 17. Of course it all comes down to how the gun shoots for you and how it feels in your hand. With all things being equal, there is defiantly more availability for the G17 parts wise and aftermarket competition products galore. I have used a G19 and mainly a G34 for USPSA shooting and have been very satisfied.:thumbup:

The 9mm has hit more men between wind an water and taken them down, than any other caliber. The 1911 is a great classic pistol.

+1, That is pretty much exactly what I would say. I tried Glocks for awhile but the grip angle just does not work for me. I much prefer the XD angle which also matches the 1911 grip angle. JMB knew what he was doing.

I might agree that it's "hit more men" but "taken them down more than ANY other caliber????"

Not so much, as "any other caliber" by defintion includes .308, 7.62x39, etc.

Of course, with current technology JHP ammo available for the 9mm, that helps the situation a bit. Of course, this same technology is available in the larger calibers, as well, so we're back to the initial statement.

Bottom line: Get the one that feels/shoots best for you.
