Advise needed on pistol, Knob Creek Info?

The plastic grip safety is yucky! :p

STEEL grip safety ;)

I have/had 3 XD's. I love them! That would get my vote, hands down!
Very reliable too! No jams or fail to fire!

I recently went to upgrade to a .45 though and wound up with a S&W M&P.
Its currently my favorite! Best ergo yet. Fits my hand like a glove and the removable grip inserts make it fit almost any hand.
The Glocks never fit my hand, but I wouldnt turn one down ;) I really like the 10MM...

Glock 17 with Glock 34 barrel. To impress the chicks.

Do you feel better now that you've put down a choice that differs from yours?

It should be about what fits you better, not a manifestation of how "manly" that weapon is.

"Gaston Glock is a genius for functional industrial design, but his products are devoid of soul....."

While that may be true for you and others who choose something other than Glock, it still ultimately comes down to regular training with that pistol to maintain and develop your skills with your weapon of choice.

soul has very little to do with that.

Let's not forget that while the 1911 is legendary, the Browning Hi-Power also enjoys a large and prominent following among gun collectors. It's ergonomics are very nice, and it's a sweet shooter. It just happens to be made in Europe (Belgium, I believe) and not have the market penetration here that Glock and others enjoy. Let's not sell it too short, though.

Jason

The Browning High Power has been around since 1935. If it hasn't penetrated the market by now, it ain't gonna happen !

You won't see the BHP in IPSC matches due to the caliber, action and capacity. While it's not competitive in any division, that doesn't mean it's not a good gun.

Point out to me the specific denigration of the Glock as a weapon or implication that only pussies use them. That was done by someone other than me.

In the material you quoted, I admired the fact that the gun was functional and reliable. I also mourned the fact that it is, umm, less than elegant in appearance. That is surely a fact and not opinion.

The point is, those two factors have nothing to do with each other. Ugly or not, the damned things work, horrible trigger action and all. Not my cuppa, but I don't insist that others feel the same way as I.

Sorry, Rick, I messed up on copying quotes, it was another that implied that only pussies used glocks.

I was responding to two different replies, yours and another.

in your quote I was only responding to your comment about the lack of "soul" in a non-living object.

as you say, the damm things do work, and that was the point I was trying to make, lack of "soul" or not. I don't insist that anyone feel the same as anyone else either.

will check my work next time before hitting reply.

Agreed, sir. While the BHP is a very nice gun, there are MANY good options out there that fr surpass it for competitive purposes. I guess I just felt that it was being short-sold, however, you're reply was right. It's just not as good a choice for the OP's needs as many other guns.

Truthfully, I was anti-glock for a long while, going so far as to clown on my good friend for his "in-elegant" choice in a personal defense weapon. However, after trying a LOT of different guns, and being let down by my SA EMP and Kimber stainless Pro TLE/RLII in a long day of training, (where the instructor kept repeating the mantra, "GET A GLOCK!!!) I decided to plunge into the dark side and just learn to adjust. After getting my guns shaved and stippled, they certainly feel better to me. Why today, I was consistenly able to put 5 shots into the black circles that come with shoot-n-c targets. (I use those on the backs of silhoutte targets to force myself to practice trigger control). For me, the Glocks are working fine, and I've YET to have a single problem, even with the guns filthy with crud.

The 1911 (with slimline grips) is still the best-feeling pistol I've ever held or fired, but for a personal defense weapon, Glock is my gun of choice until something more evolved, yet just as simple and reliable is invented.

Roger ball. I guess I was feeling sensitive because I try VERY hard not to do that sort of thing. We're cool.

As far as the rest of you guys, the question asked by Torm wasn't about the HiPower but rather the Browning Pro .40 , which is yet another polymer gun. As I said, I had never heard of the thing until he asked his question.

Note that the boys in Utah have a picture of the 9mm assigned to the page for the .40 S&W. Really speaks to their attention to detail, eh?

Ooooh...I have been corrected. Really speaks to MY attention to detail as well. :o

Guys, the HS2000 feels better than the Glock to me. It won the purchase award!

So did the 357 Magnum...:)

Did you actually find a used HS2000, or did you buy an XD? Which model? 5" 9mm? Good for you. Now go run it like a racehorse and let us know how you like it.

Let's bring back the .45 and 9mm Luger Pistol back into production! lol! That will end this debate. WORD: Love what you got!!

If we're going to pollute this thread with pistols, at least have a Busse in them:

HIJACK!!!

19111.jpg

I love 1911's believe me they're one of my favorite pistol designs but they're not even close to the reliability as a Glock especailly in customized form! I've seen more 1911 failure's than just about anything except the Beretta M92! Too many parts etc....etc. Glock is simple and that's part of the reason it functions so well! And freaking accurate as all He**!

I believe that fact that no one has EVER, to my knowledge, subjected any other weapon to the abuse that Glocks have and been able to keep running says it all. That goes for all pistols, 1911s included. Of course, I'm new to guns (only carried daily for 29+ years and held an FFL for years) ;)

But, in saying that, it all boils down to what fits you and what you can hit with.

Good luck to OP in whatever he chooses.

How do you know ? Unless you've subjected every other gun to that testing, it's mere speculation.
