Affordable Knife

First I will apologize for being a noob, but I don't know where to turn for advice, the stores locally seem to try and upsell, and pricing is ludicrous.

I am looking for a new knife for work, as I have lost my Spyderco. Primarily this will be used to do everyday tasks, cutting stuff open. However, as a LEO this knife will also need to be able to serve as a last defense.

Primarly I have been looking at Kershaw, Spyderco, Cold Steel and Benchmade.

I have a medium/small sized hand, I am looking for a folding knife, with a blade 3-4" long. I am also hoping to stay sub $100 range, and preferably around $60.

I am currently interested in the Kershaw JYD II Composite, and Cold Steel Recon 1.

Any help you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Alex

Thanks a lot you guys for the fast replies.

I am also looking for the fundamental stuff as well, a good solid grip, and a higher quality metal, I've been trying really hard to stay away from the lower end models of good brands.

S30V Blur?

Prints flat in the pocket, great steel, assisted open, good grip, easy to find for 60 bucks or so.

I gave my sister a Blackout (she is on her way to the academy this fall...) and she loves it.

Id go Spyderco Stainless frame Delica,Endura,or POLICE.Great everday user with a slim design, but enough heft to pound something if you have to.

The JYD CB is pretty great. Also check out the ET and RAM, although the ram is just about 3 inches even in blade length and may be a little on the small side for you. The groove is also quite nice.

I like the Kershaw JYD II. It was one of my favorite blades when I had mine. Gave it to my bud who is in the military.

I had a Cold Steel Recon 1 and sold it. The steel is whatever (440a or aus 8) and after a while it had a lot of blade play. A good every day carry (EDC) in your price range from my experience is a Spyderco Delica or Endura or a Benchmade Griptillian. I EDCed a BM mini griptillian for several months and did light cutting tasks with it and it wasn't even close to dull when I gave it to a friend.

I'm sure the Kershaw's listed above are good too.

Spyderco Centofante III ($49)
3.13" blade, VG-10, FRN Handle

Spyderco Tenacious ($29)
3.38" blade, 8Cr13Mov steel, G-10 Handle

or

Just get a BM Full/Mini Griptilian
gpknives.com has BM Mini-Griptilians for $56 (lowest price ive found)

First off, welcome to the Forums! There are a lot of people on here that will get you pointed in the right direction. In your case, I have to say check out the Cold Steel Pocket Bushman. It's a pretty solid knife and is in your size (4.5" blade) and price (~$25) range. Here's some links:

DO NOT BUY A POCKET BUSHMAN - AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN - I have 6 weeks+ of rehab and a multi thousand dollar bill from the docs to prove it.

Wow Scotch...what happened? My PB has done well so far for such a cheap knife. Should I be aware of anything that might go wrong with mine?

definitely the griptilian, I was suprised how much I liked it when I received it. For under $100 it's hard to beat. I think I got mine for about $65 IIRC.
