Affordable Knife

Personally, I used an Emerson CQC-7 (CE tanto) for my "street" years. If I had to get something nowadays (My work needs are different nowadays), I'd probably get a Spyderco Endura. They're hard to beat. They're plenty big enough, cheap enough (PDs can set-up a program with Spyderco, BTW, making them VERY affordable), & easy to open with or W/O gloves, plus their 4 way clip & back lock makes them virtually ambidextrous.

The B/M Grip is also a great choice, too. Their axis-lock is ambidextrous, too, & they're fairly easy to open/close with gloves.

The Kershaws are great, but they're not as ambidextrous as a back-lock Spydie or axis-lock B/M. The RAM can be considered ambi, though, but it's smaller than what you're looking for.

IMHO, I found that a folder that can be easily used with either hand to be very useful.

Good luck with whatever you get.

Personally, I'd recommend a Spyderco D'Allara. It's a good, solid knife, and a nice size. Big enough to be functional for anything you need, but without being too big.

It's been discontinued, but you can find them at numerous places online for about $60.
