....well South Africa and Mozambique to be exact.... ;)

As most know I have just spent close to three weeks in Africa, mostly hunting (rifle and camera) and very little of what could be called "classic tourism".. :) :)

So I have just started in and edited a couple of hundred of the better pics that tell the tale and will get them posted up over the forthcoming week....once I write the commentary that goes along with them.... but to start....

Packed and ready to go....

Accommodation security in Joburg (a great little B&B that caters to hunters generally)...

In the grounds, it a a great place an dthey really make you feel at home ...

And after navigating Joburg Airport twice and Beira (Mozambique) once I was out with my virginity intact (and my wallet) settled in at the main camp on night No1 before I got stuck into it all properly...

Home for the first night before a move to a camp about 2hrs across country the following morning...

And yes, I DID think they were teasing me with the tales of lions wandering the camp and such at night... I was to learn later that they do rarely joke about such matters (thoughts of jokes or not my .375 was close at hand when I went to bed... like the Zombie Apocalypse, you just can't risk it !!! ;) )

So that is my tease for now... ;)

I had three knives with me, my BATAC, my well travelled Skeleton Key and a little Buck folder... ;)

Andy,
Thank you so much for sharing the pics and trip details. I hope we are all for a long ride :) Please keep them coming. Your photography is amazing!

Dang, and I thought an ASH or RMD would have made the trip. Good choices though.

Mmm.... I guess that electrical fence is to keep folks out..... And guests in, for their own safety.

Love the clearness of those shots. Very nice pic of the beers at sunset:thumbup:

This is gonna be a fun ride!!!..... Thanks Andy:thumbup:;)

....both were close to making the trip !!! The BATAC is about half way between them ;). If my CS .22s had arrived with a bit more time ahead of my departure I am almost certain one would have gone with me. In reality the SK and Buck folder covered most needs but where would the fun have been in that !!!!!

....thanks mate :). Crime around Joburg is still apparently pretty bad but improving, so they tell me. That security was about the norm on most houses in the suburbs.

Andy

A great start to the photos:thumbup:
I need an exciting vacation from work and yours is about as close as I'm going to get :)
I'll look forward to your future installments

Awesome Andy... I can't wait to see this unfold!!

Great pics... My favorite so far is beers at sunset. After a trip like that, bet they were really tasty!

Keep them coming...

It's funny when I see photo's of the electrified fences taken by tourists, so foreign in most countries.
They are as normal here as toilets so we don't notice them anymore.

I am glad to hear that you had a good, safe trip.

....electrical fences around a home are not only foreign, they are illegal here. I've often wondered what it would be like to live in S.A. ,the fact that one needs that type of security saddens me (it isn't news to me. I've known this for a long time)..... Beautiful country though:thumbup:

Thanks for starting up the pics--they look great, looking forward to the next installment!

.... yes I was well aware of it when I traveled but it is a very foreign concept to us here. That said here in Sydney (depending on suburb) steel bars and grills are the common feature of many homes.
