Africa...

I hope to travel and hunt there someday. I am observing these pics and your commentary with much interest. Thanks for sharing.

Nice intro to the documentary; I can't wait for the bush/wildlife shots. While you were gone I booked my safari for next year, so I am getting psyched up waiting for your thread to continue.

Can't wait to see the full writeup with pics. Great teasers.

When is the next installment..?

I need to Tivo this thread..(people still say Tivo, dont they?)

Say it? I've still got one....

Love the pics Andy!
Looks like it was the perfect time of year for traveling.

No sweat Andy...... We'll see and read it all whenever you're ready...it's all cool.

.....its 06:20 hrs here and I'll be heading out to work :(

very cool, thank you for the pics.
Are the electric fences for the 4 legged predators or the 2 legged or both ?
I have several friends that go to and live in S.A. and some of the stories are unreal.
One told me the theft is so bad at the air port that they buy a cheap clock radio at wal mart to put in their checked luggage so that the thieves will steal it and look no further, so that the pricey electric razor will be safe.

Will soon need those security measures in So Cal. Thanks much for the story and photos, Andy...Cheers.

Hey all, still trying...checking in off the mobile but i can only post pics etc from home...

Dave, that fencing is for the 2 legged variety of problem. I was lucky in that my gear got through both Johannesburg (SA) and Beira (Moz) unscathed, it was funny in Beira as the airport dates to the 70s (in EVERY respect) and you watch you luggage get unloaded from the plane, into the truck and then onto the end of the VERY old luggage carousel, I was happy to see both my bag and rifle case appear !!! Once you grab it that have a standalone scanner/xray that you carry your gear to and feed through while they watch... it was VERY funny (well to me) watching the guy who was watching the screen get all animated (bear in mind he watched me put the gear on the belt to go in) when he realised that the long black gun case, with the big red FIREARMS tag on in, actually contained a rifle....LOL So then started the "negotiation process" relating to the validity of my firearms licence/permit...

There are no dangerous 4 legged creatures in Johannesburg. To an American eye it looks a lot like Detroit but the weather is better.:o
Bag security at Johannesburg International Airport is vastly improved and is largely a non issue now. But I always urge people to use a good quality hard suitcase.

And yes, I DID think they were teasing me with the tales of lions wandering the camp and such at night... I was to learn later that they do rarely joke about such matters (thoughts of jokes or not my .375 was close at hand when I went to bed... like the Zombie Apocalypse, you just can't risk it !!! ;) )..
Seems like you also needed a fly swatter :)

.... mosquitoes and sand flies... ;)

OK... apologies about the delay, work and a few other issues have been making stopping for more than a moment almost impossible for the past few days.

The pics above are of the main camp. From this they have a number of smaller camps spread out across Sofala Province in Central Mozambique. Each camp is up to seven hours drive away and I got to see more than my share of the camps on this trip ;)

The first one we travelled out to was to hunt Cape Buffalo. This camp was about a two hour drive away (yet only 50KM !!). A small comment here, travel in Mozambique is measure in time rather than distance....thanks to the state of the roads and general ability (or lack there of) of other drivers.

I felt pretty much at home on the drive as it was in an old and well worn (500K KM) 75 Series Landcruiser :)

The accommodation was a little more basic but clean and comfortable, heck, it is better than many places I stay when I hunt out here !

My hut...

Bed..

Internal view..

Hot water supply...

Laundry :D

Kitchen..

Royal Throne of Mozambique (I was of course crowned King !!).. and yes that is as high and tilted as it looks !!

Fire pit and dining room...

This area is "dry" (for Moz) country and you are hunting the buffalo in and around the forests (as opposed to the open and wet delta area) where the numbers are MUCH lower and (as I was to discover) MUCH harder to hunt !!!

Great Photos Andy....thanx for sharing your adventure....

I have seen some older photos from an old hunter guide from Alaska who made several Safari's with his best client who paid his way....the tales were awesome to back up the photos.

What's the knife on your belt in the pic? Oh and that land cruiser is way cool...
