So im after mainly a fixed blade to go hunting with. Not just for cutting up game, but a multi purpose tool for rope, branches, whatever.

Here is the kicker though, i need something also for self defense. Its very remote out here and let just say the 'locals' can be a bit rough at times.
It would be more a deterrent than anything, i hope it would never come to using it on another person.

What do you guys think? No i dont want to carry two knives. What about the KA-BAR Becker BK7?

Say 90% general camping/hunting use and leave that 10% use for self defense if needed.

i just ordered an ontario RBS7

what do you think of it ?

That looks nice, im a fan of Ontario/Rat/ESEE. Wanted something maybe a bit more 'stabby' lol.

Anyone got a Spartan HORKOS? Ive been wanting to get a Spartan for a while now, maybe it will fit the bill?

You guys want to use those knives for 'cutting up game?'

(Almost) anything is possible, but maybe go for something a little bit shorter?

Maybe ESEE3 or 4 or something in that size.

ESEE mentioned for size. Plenty of other knives in that size/range.

Should be able to cover most bases mentioned.

I was looking at spartans for your exact purpose and thought the nyx was the best fit. Never bought one, but no doubt they are quality built knives designed and made by guys who truly understand what it means to have a good knife. If I ever buy another fixed blade, it will be a spartan or two

Ive got the ESEE 5 and i love it. But im swinging to a more 'tactical' blade.
I wanted to get a Spartan simply cause i love them, thought if anyone had one if it would fit the bill. Obviously its a great combat knife but i want too see how good it would be for a normal use hunting type also.

Unless you are looking to have the point come out the back or remove major parts, 4" is enough.

All of that assumes you are trained and willing. Few are. You could drop over to Practical tactical and ask about knife-fighting.

Tastes differ, but it is not made for general hunting or camping. Maybe for hunting wild hogs with a knife - or feral humans.

The nyx is their shortest knife with a full handle. You might be interested in the CRK nyala though

Be warned, if you order directly from them you will have to wait a month or two ...but its worth it. Check out the noss destruction test of the scrapper 5 on youtube.

Could always look at the Becker BK15, or even the 5 if the extra blade length is needed. Both are excellent game processing knives, and work really well for camp chores. For intimidation, the BK5 is light and surprisingly very fast in the hand.

What are you hunting with? If I were deep in the woods and had to defend against an assailant, I would choose a hunting rifle over any knife.
For what you're asking, check out the Blackjack tac-ops prototypes. Made by bark river, convexed A2 steel and at closeout pricing. As mentioned above, the smallest (4.5") model would be best, but they are available in a 6" and 8" blade as well.

Hunting with re-curve bow. My mate runs the compound. The knife is for general purpose, cutting rope, twigs, stuff we find on the trail and things we kill. Also for targets and such.

I need something intimidating if we run into a band of 'locals.' Also need it to be more show should the 1% chance be they turn bad. Be prepared is the motto. I dont intend to ever use it on a person, but will if i have no other option and cannot run away.
