After a good hunting/tactical fixed blade.

What knife could you buy that will satisfactorily pop open a large animal and allow you to take care of moderate-heavy camp chores, but not be as good as any other sharpened piece of metal at sticking or cutting a person?

If you want some way to fend off an attacker that isn't as effective as a firearm, you should probably carry a walking stick or maybe some mace. Depends on your fitness level and comfort with the idea of actually fighting with someone to dissuade them, rather than blinding them long enough to run away. Personally I'm not interested in getting physical with anyone, even as a fit 26 year old man. I'm more confident that I won't permanently injure myself while running than I am that I won't suffer some long-term damage while mutually beating on a stranger, while far from town and with sharp objects probably in play.

As far as knives for general use go, the Scrapyard 511 and 711 are a pretty good deal. If you want something more suited for cutting up game, go smaller like an ESEE 3/4 or one of the shorter Bussekin blades.

For defense, carry a gun. Much easier to use and much smarter.

Having done some shooting and some knife training I have serious doubts that a gun is easier to use in any kind of confrontation. More effective? Yeah. Easier? Maybe psychologically, but not as a skill set.

Spanish 2G "Tactical".
Forge 52100, black micarta scales.
My favourite when hunting.
800x600

Good for game processing, bushcrafting and ... whatever else. In fact it´s more a sharpened stubby pry-bar, but you can use it for almost anything as long you dont need a slicing or push-cutting.
Hope you like it.

Hey guys, i am listening to you opinions :)

Settle down with the self defense stuff though, ive got that covered.
Its a hard question, i know, sorry about that. But now im swinging for a smaller blade, as you guys have recommended. So still on the board with the Blackjack, ESEE 4 and the Becker BK15 is smaller too. Still torn between those 3 brands... Have no idea what A-2 steel is but is it a tool steel? The Prototype might be a better knife due to the steel which is better than the other brands yeh?

I don't think the type of knife will make much difference for you. Just the fact you have one and they see it on your belt.

EXACTLY! ;) Still i want to be able to know if it ever came to it, it would be ok in a combat scenario. Those smaller knives im looking at will, as they have a more tapered sharp tip.

Respectfully, all that is against you is centuries of human experience.

Think im gonna go with the A2 prototype Blackjack 4. Its small, will work well for hunting and general duties, yet is stabbie enough if need be. Thanks for the advice once again! :)
