After decades I've figured out I hate jack knives.

I apologize if I sounded judgemental, I did not mean to be. Canoes happen to one of my least favorite patterns as well.
See? I knew there was room for rapprochement.:thumbsup:

I like the OP's direct talk :D Controversy stimulates, conformity deforms:cool: But why did it take decades???

Plus he's right about that Peanut thing, tried them but...Pen everyday, as for Canoes...just keep 'em on the roof of a car, drag all round, eyesore comes to mind too 🤣 Then there's Congress- wait they're usually not 2 blade same end (except Irish Jack Forumknife 13) but just too many blades all round! I know mrknife mrknife often favours a blade delete, well it would be well deployed here...and for Congress I'd just go for total blade delete and take pride in the hollowed out husk:thumbsup:

They are just broken stockmen. Just think of the use those two springs could have put too. Wasted potential if you ask me.
Not really. I seldom use the spey blade. And I prefer the layout on the Buck stockman knives. It has the nail nick on the two blades that I do use situated so that I can use my right thumb to open either one.

Here's a perfect stockman:

Although trust me. I have plenty of experience with stockman knives...

With single and two-blade folders I prefer the jack configuration, like Frank, with all nicks on the mark side. But being a fancier of stockman patterns, I have no problem with double-ended knives. Buck's forum knife and the GEC #35 Churchill are particular favorites, with their clip and sheepfoot blades.

I love jacks, although not a huge fan of dogleg jacks. I really only carry jacks with regularity, occasionally I throw in a stockman or scout/utility. Really the only traditional knives I don't like are the ones with duplicate blades. I like a half congress, but a regular one that has two sheepfoot and two pen I dont get. The GEC whittler with 3 wharnclife blades, sorry thats silly to me. But to each their own, I reckon 😁👍

"Well, that's just...like...your opinion, man."

I like some better than others, but I don't hate anything but "canoes". (Though I do enjoy canoeing.)
So, to clarify..."canoes" are one of several patterns I have never had an interest in purchasing. But I don't hate them, and no canoes were sunk in the making of this post. Though they may have needed minor repairs.

I'm starting to understand why my opinions are not universally respected on The Porch. o_O:rolleyes:
Here are some of my beloved canoes. Note that none of them have their dangerous tang corners exposed, so no need to worry about damage to pockets nor about disembowelment and/or castration.

Your friend, and canoesseur forever,

For 69 going on 70 years, I've never owned a Toothpick, Moose, Muskrat, Sunfish, Elephant Toe pattern ... maybe likely, some others
Think I only have one trapper and it was purchased within the last year
It's not that I don't like them, I've seen some fine examples posted here
Just that I don't imagine I'd find them as useful as some other patterns
And that's what it boils down to. Each of us finds what we feel is most useful in daily endeavors ... or like to collect
I'm kinda shocked someone hasn't chimed in with hate for single blade clip point lockbacks

I like darn near every traditional pattern even though I have a hard time carrying a few of them. If you have a peanut or small pen like an Ike pattern it might be a big help to your task at hand and you never know it’s in the pocket

I carried this Ulster for 40 years and it served me very well but I never did like to feel another blade spine when using it . During the 40 years , I would not spend any more money on a knife . Now I have a few more knives with various numbers of blades and various patterns and I do not hate any of them . When it comes time to choose a knife to go out and work with , I will almost always choose a One Bladed knife which automatically makes it a Jack . There was one period of a few years where I considered the difference in price of $10 between a 1 bladed and a 2 bladed knife .

I disagree, the GEC 62 whittler is a great design, the best knife i've ever used for whittling. DSC_0007.JPG

I don't like the canoe pattern either but please, GT, use what floats your boat.

Dan.
