After watching Tom's BK2 get schooled by the ESEE5, I'm in the market for some ESEEs

Tom Gannon has some great footage of him pitting a BK2 vs. an ESEE 5, blade to blade, and the ESEE basically embarasses the BK2. Quickly. I rooted for the BK2 the whole time, hoping Tom would be wrong and the BK2 would be as the victor, but there's no way that was happening. As sad as I was that the BK2 lost, I was in awe of the sheer performance and power of the ESEE 5.

I know Rowen is revered for their heat treat process, does that account for the amazing performance of the 5 vs. the BK2? I didn't like ESEE before, purely because their fan/user base are often rude and condescending to Ontario Knife users and the previous RAT name in general, but this test showed the proof is indeed in the pudding.

Using that theory, should the Rowen manufactured RSk Mk2 put the same kind of hurt on the BK2?

Thanks for reading.

The ESEE did not school the BK2. That test did not prove superiority of any knife.

Come on dude, why do you think tom is over here as a beckerhead now. It's because of his newfound respect for the Becker line after that video series. And if you go through them again. you'll notice it's a metal thickness issue. That sabre grind on the bk2 wasn't gonna stop the esee until the thickness equaled out. then neither one of them did anything. Nothing was proven by that series, but it was hella cool to watch some dude with cahones putting his money where his mouth is. A lot of Becker blades were sold because of that.

Now that being said, if this is just a stunt to convince yourself to buy some ESEE's. Well then, ESEE's dominated and have at it my good man. ESEE makes great blades and you'll never here me say otherwise.

where is the video?, I tried to play it on his site and the link went to spec ops sheaths.

Don't be fooled into thinking either knife is better than the other. The Bk-2 can outcut the ESEE5 when it comes to camp chores. The ESEE5 is thicker, and heavier, is designed that way. Great for being tough, not so great for slicing, cutting, and doing all the stuff a knife is supposed to do. I own both, like both, but they are just different knives, neither is supperior overall.

give me ONE example of this happening !! I've been on this forum a little while now, rat is the one that drove me over here, and I've never heard anything negative about ontario, other then warranty smack..

Well If you really feel that way. Buy the Esee it's a good knife.
I did not see the Esee 5 as beating the BK2. IMO
But considering It's more than twice the cost, I hope it would outperform.
Just my thoughts on the subject.

I think he's just trying to rattle the cage a little. It's been a little dry over here lately.

The ESSE 5 is a chisel, a drill, a hatchet, a small club, a shovel and sometimes a prybar. Basically, it is a demolition tool. Skinning, slicing or filleting anything with it without modifying the geometry is an exercise in frustration and lost resources. It should not be compared with a knife. I can't comment on the BK2 because I don't own one.

I have a question for you. Why did you come to the Becker sub-forum to say that you're going to get an ESEE knife?

Both are great, and both are made by great companies. If that is what you needed to see to convince yourself to spend the extra cash on a similar knife then great. I just see it as you posting in the wrong forum is all. Not trying to start anything just sayin'.

you need to start hiking and see for yourself first hand what these knives can do instead of relying on some video by a stranger to tell you which knife is superior imho.

p.s. my mora beats both knives hands down in feather stick making and handle ergonomics :o

No this is good man. Gets the blood pumpin' . I mean for weeks now, " I cut myself", "I gotta new esky", "Which one should I get next", " I made a new handle". :jerkit:

And those are my threads. I'm guilty. It's been slow is all.
