After watching Tom's BK2 get schooled by the ESEE5, I'm in the market for some ESEEs

I own both and love both.

but if I could only choose one it would be my BK2 with micarta handles....

Now if there is one Esee you must own it should be the Esee 6, now that is a bad-ass knife IMO.

Well... you can get your esee5 and let us know first hand how it compares. My only issue with the esee5 is I could get a bk5 and a bk2 for the same price... no brainer in my book but to each his own.

Nothing personal but this really seems like a trollish thread but buy the ESEE and enjoy it - it's a great knife.

give me ONE example of this happening !! I've been on this forum a little while now, rat is the one that drove me over here, and I've never heard anything negative about ontario, other then warranty smack..

Not here, everyone on blade forums are great.

I've never handled an ESEE 5, but its reputation is outstanding, just like the rest of the ESEE line. You couldn't go wrong with anything they've got. After watching TG's videos, I'm really proud and happy to be a BK2 owner. It'll go through a lawn mower if you want it to. Just ask BRab.

Wow, this was bound to end up in a flame war, but you guys kept calm. Kudos. I really love this forum.

OP: Just get both.

Nothing wrong with trying out products from a different company.

Although I personaly don't get anything from the destruction tests that are performed, some folks do, no problem. I do find entertainment value in those tests but that's about it.

The true test of any tool is not how well it performs for someone else, it is how well it performs for you.

I've had the ESEE 5 for sometime now and just recently bought a BK2. They are similar but different in their own way. I would not feel "out knifed" with either if I found myself in a survival situation. Yea the ESEE 5 is a bit more, but it has micarta scales and a rocken sheath system. In my opinion, both are exceptional!
Just one man's opinion

I think we can all agree that every Becker and every ESEE kick ass is one way or another. Some slice better, some chop better, they are all seriously good knives.

If I could afford to buy every knife I ever casually thought I'd like to have, I'd not only buy the whole ESEE and Becker lines, I'd also own a gaggle of Busses and at least one each of all the awesome custom makers hangin' around here. But I can't afford that. Neither can I afford to throw my money at every piece of equipment that I have a specific need and use for. I have to pick and choose. For heavy use, outdoor-types of duties, I am much more likely to turn to Becker first to find what I need based on a quality to cost ratio. Doesn't mean I have anything at all against ESEE, nor does it mean that I believe that I'm at odds with anyone who chooses to buy ESEEs over Beckers, or combine their purchases between the two. In that regard, I find the accusations in this thread rather ridiculous. Someone posts to say they're impressed with a test they saw and they're going to buy ESEEs because of it, and they're called "troll?" And the guy who ran the test is called "condescending" because he seems to be a bigger fan of ESEEs than he is of Beckers? I mean really, so what? Tom Gannon just sold me my third BK2 for a great price and with excellent service, and during our correspondence he told me that he has three 2's also. He didn't try to sell me an ESEE instead, and assured me, before knowing that I already had a couple, that I was going to be thrilled with my new Becker. Gee, sounds real condescending towards Beckers, doesn't it though?

I read Arkanian's OP and thought, "Cool Bro, glad you're successful enough to be able to go out and buy ESEEs anytime the spirit moves you." I couldn't do that if I wanted to, but neither am I feeling inadequately prepared because all I can afford is Beckers. It really seems to me to be a rather ridiculous competition in some folks' minds. They're useful tools no matter whose name is stamped on the blade. I sincerely hope Arkanian enjoys his ESEEs when he gets them. I'll guaran-damn-tee that I'll continue to enjoy my Beckers.

I needed a good heavy knife for serious camp shores. Initially, I fell in love with the ESEE 5. Good looking blade, premium handles and sheath, cool features built into the knife, awseom warrenty. Whats not to like right? But the price is a little beyond my reach with the cost of raising a family to consider. I found the Becker line while researching kabars. Stumbled onto the BK2 and seemed to have all the functional stuff as the Esse 5 with decent handles, decent sheath, awesome warrenty, half the price. I was sold!

I still look longingly at the ESEE products, but i am very happy with my BK2 and plan on getting more Becker products to compliment my BK2.

holy didn't we cover this in full last month waste of time Tom's a gret guy Ethan likes him blah blah troll like thread?

bored? go outside :) get off the computer ;)

Actually... I like the BK2(new one) sheath better than the ESEE sheaths. My BK2 isn't going ANYWHERE in its sheath. I once had a momentary lapse of judgement(of which will never happen again...) not too long ago, where I was holding my RC-3 by the sheath and flung my arm outward. It resulted in the knife being ejected, flying 15ft or so and sticking tip first into my bathroom door... I about had a heart attack ... Luckily no family was in its path.

Of course, that's not to say the sheath is perfect, but the retention is far superior to any sheath I've ever had.

As an ESEE user first, I was very intrigued by Tom's video. Having not known much about, or used, Beckers before that video, it certainly put the BK2 on my road map, a road map which leads to my house tomorrow!

Thanks Tom Gannon for clashing the titans!
