After watching Tom's BK2 get schooled by the ESEE5, I'm in the market for some ESEEs

My ESEEs were sitting in the drawer for a long time, so they eventually all got pawned off on the exchange. The '5 is an impressive knife, for sure, but the handle sucks. Big chunk of metal with slab handles. Didn't rub me the right way, so I ended up trading it for a BK2. Much better, IMO. I also dig the blade shape. To each their own. Arkanian isn't a troll.

No but this thread is. We have tons of good content here on the Becker forum - do we really need threads like this one that appear to be designed to start arguments? Folks have been cool and restrained and kudos for that, but give me a break.

Hey Arkanian....

Read what Tom the tester said....He was there.......Either knife will work like the devil for you......I love using ESSE's--- they all work well......My belief is that given almost equal steels, heat treat, size and blade geometry- the knife that fits YOUR hand and the knife that balances in YOUR hand is the knife you should buy......I own ESSEs and use ESSEs and I do not use anything twice that I do not like.........That said, Mike and Jeff are ALMOST there on most of their handle designs....LOL...He He....LOL.....I only said that because Jeff made me sleep in the kitchen like a smelly dog on tuesday night....LOL.......

Your Esses will make you a happy camper......Thanks for livening things up......Although I DO hate saying good things about ESSE where Mike and Jeff can use my words against me in person.....LOL....LOL.....

All Best.....

I agree, buy the ESEE, the entire line up in fact, and send me all those crappy Beckers you just bought. Getting the blood pumping is one thing but stirring the pot is not always cool like now dude. Very poor taste in those comments sur, IMHFO.

Ark, I sincerely hope you don't feel foolish for buying hundreds of dollars worth of Becker knives. I think there is an exchange area on the forum somewhere, and you may be able to recover part of your investment. I might be able to help you out on some of them myself as I am feeling generous lately. Let me know.

Kinda wierd how he posted this thread and really didn't respond back except for the one brief comment.

I'm unsubscribing. This is just becoming a not-fun place to read. I think I'll atop reading this thread, as the natives are just getting restless. Hope everybody else just does the same and cools off.

Me thinks I been gone too long. Its an interesting post, but one that has been rehashed. I own both of them, the ESEE5 is an egress tool, desinged by SERE instructors to be a tough knife, in a tough spot. I thinned the edge out on one of mine, and it is good to go, but stock, you have to really adjust your cutting style, to make it a performer. The BK2, well, yeah, I think its a better woods/daily use knife. Tom's test, was horrific to watch, but it made him respect the BKT lineup, and become a dealer.

Ark, nice of you to try to get the flow back up, but not the best way to do it. Next time, just post pics of women holding BKT's. :D

To me, all those tests really did was demonstrate how much of an absolute BARGAIN the BK2 is. Those who own one know that already. Those who don't are losing out. Sad, really.

YEEEEESSS, this. It's really not too much to ask for. Maybe I should do a bikini contest giveaway or something. It'd probably earn me an infraction of some kind though.

Actually... I like the BK2(new one) sheath better than the ESEE sheaths. My BK2 isn't going ANYWHERE in its sheath. I once had a momentary lapse of judgement(of which will never happen again...) not too long ago, where I was holding my RC-3 by the sheath and flung my arm outward. It resulted in the knife being ejected, flying 15ft or so and sticking tip first into my bathroom door... I about had a heart attack ... Luckily no family was in its path.

Of course, that's not to say the sheath is perfect, but the retention is far superior to any sheath I've ever had.

Hmmm. Interesting on the ESEE-3 sheath, which is plastic as opposed to their other knives which are Kydex. The plastic sheath is high quality, but I don't think you can adjust the retention of the knife using the screws like on their Kydex sheaths. You could always use the paracord that comes with the sheath to string around the knife handle down close to the sheath and secure it with the paracord lanyard they also include. Just loop the paracord through the two holes and criss cross in the back. In fact I just did it with my RC-3, and thanks to you now will know it won't ever come out on a hike. Thanks! On my RC-4, I just tighten down the retention scew(s) to get a vault like lock.

No question the BK2 is a sensational value and a great knife.

if you want an esee 5, you can get one. The becker Will do everything you need it to exept for baton through the esee 5

Wow, I am neutral to ESEE and BKs(don't got any ESEE or BK knives) but dam that video didn't prove anything.
If I had to pick I take BK2.

both are great knives as proven by their respectively large fan base. I have a bk11 and 2 esee izulas. (a izula and an izula II) with an ESEE4 on its way. I don't wanna rain on anyones parade, both knives are great. I prefer my izulas better since they seem to hold their sharp edge longer, and have a more manageable blade length and point for edc stuff. The coatings on both blades are noticeably different. The becker coating is not as durable as the esee coating. The largest difference between them is pretty much price. For the higher price of ESEE knives, in my humble opinion, you get more options and slightly higher quality. The ESEE series comes with micarta handles as opposed to the grivory handles(i think its grivory or some other plastic type material) on the beckers. If you are really into customizing your own blades, go for the becker. they are cheaper and easier to work with. the esees are more expensive and would probably discourage the average knife user from tinkering. I like my esees much more and will be investing in the quality that I see in them.

I respect both knife companies highly for their ideology in manufacturing their blades in the USA. I believe that it is quite important to buy American and I definitely see the difference in quality between American knives and those from other countries.

so.......the thing to take away from this is... GO USA!!!!!!!!!

I will totally pose and post pix oh me in a bikini if it means I get a free knife.
