AG Russell Acies frame lock

Got the first delivery, one had a swedge, the others got returned to be finished proprerly. I have carried the first one ever since. It may be a week or so later than the 11th. I personally like the knife even though I have never carried anything larger in my pocket than a Case 4 1/4 Trapper. I have never been a clip person, and my EDC personal favorite is my Featherlite K93.
Any one is welcome to come by the store and play with the Acies in my hip pocket.

Finished properly? Would you like to elaborate? Or maybe did you take pictures? Just out of curiosity.

I just got the new AGR catalog today & it was in it.I'm really looking forward to this one.Hopefully by this Spring I'll have one in my hands.Given the workmanship, materials, all made in the USA(except the blade steel is from Japan),backed by the best warranty in the business,I think the price is spot on!

The blade steel might be from Japan (Hitachi), but Kershaw will be doing the HT and full finishing. They are the only people Hitachi allows to mess with their ZDP.

So while the raw steel will be from Japan, unlike all others it will be worked and finished here in the US.

Looks nice to me, and I think I prefer the blade to a Sebenza's. I'm pretty sure I won't prefer the resale, though . . .

AG-

What kind of washers does it have in the pivot? Bronze, nylatron, or teflon?

Hi guys -

Woot! I got my Acies today!

Wow - I love it! I will get some pics up a little later - I have a couple of chores to do then I'll pull out the lights and take a mess of pictures to post.

Quickly - the knife is beautiful with very smooth action, ZERO blade play, excellent lock up and the lock bar is very easy to move off of the tang for closing.

The thumb studs to seem to be the same ones used on the Blur - they are kinda sharp, but since the blade is so smooth it is not hard on your thumb like a blur is.

My blade is nicely centered and fit and finish are just perfect.

The clip does stick out further than I would like, but I think that could be easily remedied. I also wish the clip were a darker color, as it is shiny and makes itself known when you have the knife in pocket. That said, the knife rides nice and deep and none of the actual knife is visible in your pocket. Very nice!

The A.G. Russell etch on the blade is classy and not garish or detracting from the looks of the knife. The tang area has ZDP-189 on it in smallish etch. Nice.

The blade itself is nicely finished, and it does have a swedge to it. My example is well sharpened, it can rough-shave the hair from my forearm.

The ball-detent retains the blade and snicks in giving nice feedback.

I REALLY like this knife - and I think it will be with me all the time now.

Nice job Mr. Russell - you really did well on the Acies!

Pictures added!

I'm expecting mine in a couple days, but I'm just curious if the lockbar is chamferred at all? It appears to be a sharp 90 degree angle where your thumb would go on the lockbar to unlock the knife. That may be a little disappointing.

Hi Tony -

It is slightly rounded, and it is so smooth to disengage from the tang it is not an issue in my opinion.

The only two things that I would have changed is matte finish on the pocket clip and perhaps a little smoother thumb-stud (or perhaps just rotate these studs to align with the thumb a little).

But that is really nit-picking - it's a sweetheart!

I learned four days ago that the knives DO NOT have the steel insert in the lock bar! Finally got in touch with the folks at Kershaw and learned that they were unable to make the steel insert work, that it would not unlock as well as the titanium face. I do not mind their making me the best possible knife, I just wish that they had let me know so I would not have put the wrong information in my catalog and on the net.

Hi Mr. Russell -

Thanks for pointing that out.

It does not change my opinion or satisfaction with the knife - I have not put it down since I received it lol.....

I do understand your being concerned about the catalog having incorrect data.

Bought one recently, and... wow! superb knife! I like the classical design.
This big zdp189 blade in an EDC is a real pleasure.
Everything is smart and tough in this knife.
Like others forumers, i only dislike this shiny clip. Its shape is perfect, but not the finish. With a more unnoticeable clip (matte, or even better, the same Ti than the handle) the knife would have been THE PERFECT folder in my opinion.
I would have been ready to pay a few bugs more for this improvement.
Finally, it is my favourite EDC.

No, but I take care of it. For straight cutting, slicing, etc: OK. But a few days ago, I had to quill hard bamboos, with movements wich exerts bad lateral pressure on the lateral side of the edge, inside the wood, and this time I took my bradley alias S30V flat grind. (I destroyed one Opinel carbon steel blade last year in such a task).

I touched the edge up on mine Saturday night. AG's Acies is a wonderful knife and the more I use it the more I like it. Well worth the cost considering the design, materials and workmanship.
