Aggressive dogs outdoors

Whee! BladeforumS, discussion forums, so many forums, so many threads, don't like one, click on another! :D

I've never met a douche bag who owned a small breed dog. They always own large breeds with agressive reputations. Too bad douche bags have to exist as the problem would most likely disappear overnight.

that has been my experience as well.

There were were, minding our own business. Well, actually Jake's business, when an Akita mix zoomed in and bit Jake in the side! Sneak attack!

Jake was on lead and about to obey the command "PEE". Talk about a shock! He wasn't hurt, thankfully. An agressive stomp and yell from me and the uncollared miscreant fled. And Jake resumed his previous command. I've worked to teach him to ignore other dogs. It was amazing that he ignored the one that had just bitten him.

Police were called, report filed, miscreant dog and owners identified and interviewed. The dog had no collar and had not been vaccinated for rabies or anything else. They have fifteen days to provide proof that their dog does not have rabies and has been vaccinated. They are responsible for any vet bills arising from the attack on my dog (though none are expected). They are also liable for the cost of a replacement dog (trained as Jake is... $20,000+) should their dog prove rabid, or Jake have been severely injured, as well as any expenses and inconvenience to me for the temporary loss of Jake's services.

Much ado about nothing? Maybe. The attack occured in the parking lot of my pet groomer. Had the attack happened on a toy breed, the outcome would have been different. Or on one of the police K-9 or SAR dogs they groom.

Yes, some pet owners do not behave responsibly. Many do though.
