AGR Rancher and Cowboy Folders?

Just pulled the trigger on both the ranchers. I have tried to stay away from the China made soddies but everything I've heard about AG's china made knives are nothing but positive so I took the plunge. Looking forward to their arrival and they will be welcome additions to my sodbuster collection. I too would be down for any other color variation.

You should be pleased.

I ordered one of the large black rucarta handles last Christmas. It showed up at the same time as a handfull of American made slip joints (Burke/Queen collab grandaddy barlow, S&M Grandad file and wire barlow, and a handful of others).

The F&F on the Chinese made AG Russel was much higher than several of the much more expensive domestics. No liner gap (or any other kind of gap). Polished insides. Nice strong pull, smooth, and pinch-able.

An all around great knife, even at a much higher price, it would still be a good buy.

I just picked up a yeller Rancher in my mailbox yesterday. This was a purchase from another Foruum member. Needless to say I join others in saying I am very impressed with the quality of this knife. It's a total winner. Probably the best fit and finish in a "cheap" knife as I've ever seen.
Another thing that A.G. is convincing me more and more of with his knives: I'm being won over to cam-ends versus half-stops. A smooth cam-end is a joy to open and close and makes a half-stop seem superflous, even annoying in its jarring action. Just my opinion.

"Inexpensive," not "cheap." :)
Great post! I think A.G. will be selling lots of these folders.

I just received my Rancher in rucarta. Without a doubt I would buy the same in red if it cost more. I find it superior to the lockback barlow that came in the same order. So please make this in red :) (what, no emoticon for begging?!)

My Ranchers landed today and all I can say is wow! The fit and finish on these knives are second to none to any of my other 25+ sodbusters, including soddies that cost two to three times as much! Well done AG! Now where's that red Rucarta?:D

All true and congratz! ^
Will you EDC of of your new AGR folders?
I am... for a long time.

They will go into the rotation for sure! right now my GEC has seen some serious carry time but I have a Thiers Mineur(french sodbuster) that's vying for my affection and doing a good job of it.

So were you as surprised as I was that the blade shape seemed to be more of a drop point? Not complaining, just never noticed that in the pics I've seen. Seriously Trev, with I can't make my mind up with the 10 I have, you must be paralyzed with 25 soddies!

Not surprised and I really like the blade design, it's one of my favorites of my soddies. As for the ridiculous amount of choices I have, there has been some friction lately:D My secrete is I have a tackle box that I keep them all in with the exception of a few I leave out on my desk for daily carry, that way it limits my choices every morning. When things get difficult is when it's time to rotate some out of the tackle box...:D I have at least 10 more on the way to my house as we speak so things will get more interesting. I plan on having a big group shout and comparison shots of them all up within the next week or so, depending when the rest land.

I just ordered a Cowboy in rucarta minutes ago. I love red but because of a free shipping offer I received in my e-mail this evening, the decision was made! Now I'll have three waiting for me in Texas when I finally get there the end of August. (long wait but well worth it) Keep em coming Mr. Russell!!

Thanks guys!
I gotta say, the AGR Rancher and Cowboy folders will be the " folding knife buy of the year." imo!!

Had my eye on a black rucarta Rancher for a while and the free shipping email pushed me over the edge.

This is a very nice knife. Terrific fit and finish, nice action, shaving sharp, and no blade play. It's well worth the asking price - I think it's worth more than the asking price. I understand having to produce these overseas but at least you're getting a quality product. It may be inexpensive, but it's not cheap. This is a knife you'll enjoy carrying and using.

NJ- I'm glad you like your new knife!
I was not crazy about the drop-point on this folder but I like it now. IT just works so well with the handle design.

placing the order for more Ranchers and Cowboys. TYhis time the handles will be Yellow Delrin®, Ebony Rucarta™, Coral Rucarta™ and East Indian Rosewood. The original "Farmers" knives from Europe all had wood handles in the beginning. Not much point in getting excited, if things run true to form it will be nest year before we get them.

Thanks for the update, AG. We appreciate your presence here.

Will definitely get the Coral Rucarta and Rosewood when they come out! These are great knives boss!
