Ahhh... nothings like a real knifeshop

I dont have any good stores near me. I am very jealous of those of you that do. I buy 99% of my knives from pictures. Before I was a bit more knowledgeable, I bought a spyderco ss dragonfly from cabellas (WV) for MSRP. I didnt know any better, now I think back and I could have gotten 2 great spydies online for that. If I did have a NGK or similar near me, I would definitely buy from them though. It is an important service they do.

My local knife dealer is about 50 miles away, he has very nice selection but his prices about 60-70% more than most on-line dealers.

Hi Slowstarter -

I do not have a knife shop available to me that I am aware, but my local sporting goods store does carry Benchmade knives.

I have alerted my lovely wife of that so she should have no trouble finding gifts for me from now on lol....

I wish there was a dedicated knife store here, but that might cost me a lot of money....

I am lucky enough to have a real knifeshop in my town (Stockholm, Sweden). I mean a real shop full of folders, fixed blades, cutlery and nothing else. It´s such a joy to go in and handle different type of Benchmades, Spydercos, Kershaws and other brands. It´s a small shop but it carrys thousands (ehhh... well at least hundreds) of differnet knives.

I don´t like to buy on line, there´s to many downsides... not be able to handle it before you buy, seldom in stock - long waiting, expensive shipping costs, the hassle, waiting and extra cost to send back a faulty one.

I gladly pay an extra 10-20 percent when buying from a real shop. It´s so nice to handle the different knives you choose between, beats YouTube-reviews by far! And if it´s faulty - just bring it back and get a new or your cash back.

Do you have access to a real knifeshop? If you do, you´ll know what I mean. Nothing beats a real shop even if I know it couldn´t be many left in this world.

SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL KNIFE DEALER!

At 10%-20% I agree. I have yet to see a shop around where I live (like, within 300 miles) that doesn't charge 50% more than online.
I agree that if you have a reasonable local shop, supporting them would be a good idea.

No knife shops anywhere near me to support. Buying on-line can be a gamble but it's the only option available.

A big shout out to Sean at Edgeworks, he's a great guy. Great store in Frederick MD. Also, even though their prices are MSRP or higher, the staff at Country Knives (Dan Huegel?), are very knowledgeable and great people too. Lancaster PA. Going to check out Willey Knives in Greenwood DE, hopefully this weekend. My sisters boyfriend swears by this place.

I've gotten a lot of deals in the Exchange on here, and with face to face dealings with some members. Still, theres a type of awe when you walk into a knife shop.

+1 for Sean at Edgeworks - if you are ever in Frederick, MD you owe it to yourself to stop in. I've been buying from that store for years.

It is really great to have a brick and mortar in your "neighborhood", especially if the owner knows knives. It's rare when I can talk knives with someone who knows as much or more about them as I do.

there's not a decent knife shop within at least an hour from my house and that shop is just ok. Otherwise the only knifeshops are the lame gunstores in my area.

I can get to three decent knife shops, but they're all an hour to an hour and a half away. I know, it could be worse! I can't believe I only recently heard there's a big knife shop downtown L.A.- of course, I immediately forgot the name of it! Next time I hear it I'll go check that one out too.
They are called Ross Cutlery and if I remember correctly they are on Broadway & 3rd. They have an AMAZING selection!! Check them out, you will not be disappointed!

I am fortunate to live close to Smokey Mountain Knife Works. I don't always buy from them, but I like to spend my money locally. They tend to run about 20% more than online stores.

We had a small shop that sold knives for a while, but it went out of business. I wasn't suprised, as the prices were MSRP.

I will check out Ross cutlery next time I am downtown. I wanted to let you know about Larry's Shave Shop on Santa Monica Blvd. He is just a few miles in from the coast. He has a decent selection, definitely worth checking out. I shop at Recon 1 in Tarzana. This is a great place for modern folders. They are reasonable, and have good quality stuff. Socko and Tamar are great people to deal with.

The local "knife dealer" around here A) is actually a "mom and pop" sporting goods store, B) sells everything at MSRP, and C) acts like he's doing you a favor just by stocking what he does. I can't stand the place.

All the dedicated knife stores within 100 miles of me that I've been to seem to have the MSRP problem, which drives me crazy. I work in retail, I know the difference between the wholesale and MSRP prices (on average) on knives, and anyone who sells at MSRP is pretty much ripping you off.

If you ever want to take a day trip. There is one in Troy IL
gpknives.com

The only knife stores we have locally are army surplus, camping, hunting & gun orientated so I guess I've got it better than some, the brands I usually see are Pacific Cutlery, Boker, Buck, Spyderco, Muela, Winchester, Leatherman & SAKs as well as various other origin unknown labels ie. Excalibur ;)

I avoid the yuppie camping stores like Kathmandu

Only a few outdoor shops with crappy knives and overpriced multitools
There are a few shops in the Netherlands but not nearby.

I have come to think of collectorknives.net as my local knife shop even though he's several states away. I check there first. Then I move to KSF and other family shops. They aren't close by, but they are my preferences.

After reading all the replies i realize most of us are not lucky to live near a nice knife shop which handles good prices.

:thumbup::thumbup: for the Knife webshops.:thumbup::thumbup::D

In the Netherlands we have got 1 "famous" knife shop called "the old man" in Amsterdam and it will probably be the biggest shop with a nice collection.
High prices but all local prices are very high.:thumbdn::mad:
