AK Bowie info wanted (new to HI knives)

Could it be with the thinner blades it makes sense for the fullers to be shallow?

I read and try to remember what most of you say. Over a period of time, if my synthesis is working, I get to say something that makes sense. Rusty once said the old ones were real thick- I forget how thick- maybe even over 1/2". (9/16"?) But he also said the newer ones were a hell of a lot easier to carry and by inference even more useful. They're fighting knives and axes- survival knives. The old ones were axes. They had to be slower.

I always wanted an HI AK Bowie. I now own three butcher's cleavers but still would like to see HI cut a straight edge on a run of AK's, making them a kitchen knife, fighting knife, and wood chopping knife. They might have to raise the angle of the handle a little so it does not slope down as much. You need room for your fingers to clear the table if it's a cleaver.

I don't remember saying that. Doesn't mean I didn't, and you picked up on a very good rationale for less fullering in the ones with the 3/8th's inch blades.

Only the kamis could tell you for sure why they did something. And at this date even they have probably forgotten why they did it at the time. If you asked them, they'd probably make something up to please you.

Like Bill says, it's a love/hate relationship between him and the kamis. It's really true!

I remember the Damndest things, and forget other stuff I should remember.

Gary, I didn't pay attention until your location until Munk pointed it out. I am less than an hour from you, and my wife works in Soquel right off 41st ave. so is there daily. Anytime you want to head south a bit I can show you the AK or many of the other HI knives you might be interested in.

Another forumite (Sweet) also lives in Salinas, and has posted pics of a whole bunch of swords and other pointy things in his collection.

PM or email me anytime and I'd be glad to show you some stuff so that you can go for some of the Uncle Bill best buys or daily specials with some info beforehand.

Regards,

Norm

Norm, Norm, Norm...their indecision is the only thing saving some of us from the hungry, fast and greedy little new sharks... :grumpy:

 ;) :D

I don't know what the median home price is in Santa Cruz, Soquel, or Capitola, CA. these days, but anyone living there should be able to pick up a few khuks.

Naturally, the problem in that part of the Country would be being seen with them.
