I'm curious as to whether others have convexed the edges on their AKs... I learned my lesson on thinning an edge too much, but i'm considering putting a convex edge on mine to improve cutting ability

How is the factory edge working out for those of you who have used one? It seems a bit obtuse to me, but very sharp.

Id leave it alone or let busse do it instead of risking jacking up another far more expensive blade. It is a sword, its not a very ideal user so convexing it seems like a waste to me but its your sword so more power to ya.
Eta- to save you time n clutterin up the boards in the future you could of asked the same thing in one of your other ak threads

I thinned mine a bit using diamond stones and made it slightly convex at the same time by not using any kind of angle guide. I never use any kind of power tools to reprofile or sharpen my knives.

I would definitely convex it. You will get a much better performing blade. I have used the AK for awhile now and its one of my favorites, but I never knew just how awesome it was til I used a fully convex satin custom shop version.

THe first time I used the custom shop I dropped about a 30 ft 3-4" diameter toothpick out of the back yard. I dropped the tree, de-limbed it, and cut the trunk into about 6 pieces and stuffed it all in the burn barrell in about 15 minutes, and I had a beer in my hand during most of it.:D

I was amazed at how much more effective it was.

THe obtuse CG v-grind edge will sometimes bounce, but the convex edge always cuts.

Now, I try not to use the convex edge near the ground as I dont want that thinned edge hitting rocks etc. Keep that in mind and I think you will be very pleased with convexing it:)

Thank you sir:)

They make great tree and shrub pruners. Especially, with a convex edge. You have to be careful with the cg edge as it will break some of the limbs instead of cutting em clean. It still beat the heck out of the tree pruners though in open space.

Must watch out in close quarters;):D

Am I missing something? Ok... so he is the guy that messed up his TGLB, but did he deserve lip from you?

Your snotty crappy attitude was what I was referring to.

Others may not call you out on being a big meanie, but I will. :)

And nice edit btw

I think Knife hunter has all the AK's lol that is why no one has posted any more pictures. :p

Man those satins are nice. Mine's not that purty :P

Thanks for the pics sir

FWIW, I didn't wreck my TGLB by convexing it. I haven't ever messed up a knife with my Worksharp (since i learned to use it right).

I screwed up my TGLB with my Wicked Edge. I learned that lesson :P

I believe AValenz is right.
KnifeHunter: please sell me the blue/black AK so i can add to the thread :)

The blue/black one in that pic is a ruck... one that i'd really enjoy adding to my collection now that i think about it ;)

Of course, I'm just kidding about that part (gotta follow the rules ;) )

So you won't sell me a fake to dispose of through years of use and sharpening? That's it, if I ever make a Christmas card, you're off the list :D
